ALM-70103 Number of Used vCPUs on Host Exceeds Limit

Description

This alarm is generated when the number of simultaneously used vCPUs on the host exceeds the limit. The limit is calculated using the following formula: Number of vCPUs on the host x Overcommitment ratio

The overcommitment ratio is classified into the global overcommitment ratio and host group overcommitment ratio. When CoreFilter is enabled in nova-scheduler, the global overcommitment ratio is used. When AggregateCoreFilter is enabled in nova-scheduler and the host is added to the corresponding host group, the host group overcommitment ratio is used.

If both overcommitment ratios can be used, choose the smaller one.

Impact on the System

When a lot of computing services are performed on the VMs of the host, the performance of the VMs deteriorates and user experience is affected.

Possible Causes

When FusionSphere OpenStack is connected to FusionCompute, FusionCompute counts the number of used vCPUs. The VMs that are shut down do not occupy the vCPUs. Therefore, the number of used vCPUs may exceed the limit in the following circumstances:

  • When the vCPUs of the host are going to be used up, multiple VMs are concurrently created on the host.
  • The HA resource reservation function is enabled for the connected FusionCompute cluster.

Procedure

  1. Locate the FusionCompute cluster of the fc-nova-compute node for which the alarm is generated according to the alarm location information.
  2. Perform any of the following three operations to solve the problem.

    • Migrate some VMs in the cluster of the fc-nova-compute node for which the alarm is generated to other fc-nova-compute nodes.

    • Set a higher overcommitment ratio.
    • Check whether the HA resource reservation function is enabled for the FusionCompute cluster for which the alarm is generated. If it is enabled, handle the alarm using the following methods:
