Changing the SMS Gateway Password

Changing the SMS Gateway Password

Before you change the password of the SMS gateway for connecting to SMN, you need to commission the SMS gateway using the gateway commissioning tool. If the commission is successful, you can change the password and verify services afterwards.

  • You have obtained the username and password for logging in to DMK.
  • You have uploaded the SMN software package of the required version to DMK.
  • You have obtained the IP address and service account password of the NS_LB01 node.
  • You have installed the gateway commissioning tool.

SMS Gateway Test

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the node where the gateway commissioning tool is installed.

The default account is hermes, and the default password is Hermes@123.

  2. Run the following command to load environment variables:

    source /etc/profile

  3. Run the following command to enter the Safetool directory:

    cd /opt/hermes/safetool/bin/

  4. Run the following command to encrypt the SMS password:

    sh safetool -s

Enter the rootkey directory as required and press Enter:

Enter the SMS password and press Enter.

Enter the SMS password again and press Enter. Information similar to the following is displayed:

  5. Add the ciphertext to the configuration file.

The SMS test tool used at different sites varies depending on the SMS protocol. The following operations take the CMPP protocol as an example.

Run the following command to enter the configuration directory of the CMPP SMS commissioning tool:

    cd /opt/hermes/cmpp-test-tool/bin/config/

Open the file and set the value of sharedSecret to the ciphertext and save the file. The following provides an example:

  6. Send a test SMS message.

Run the following command to enter the bin directory of the SMS commissioning tool:

    cd /opt/hermes/cmpp-test-tool/bin/

Run the following command to send an SMS message:

    sh cmpptool

Enter the phone number and press Enter.

Enter the SMS message content and press Enter.

Some SMS message service providers have specific requirements for the message content. You must enter the SMS message content as required. Otherwise, the message sending may fail. For example, the provider requires that the source information be provided after the message content. If you enter hello world, the message content sent is hello world [xx cloud service].

If the phone fails to receive the SMS message, verify the SMS password and repeat 3 to 6.

The ciphertext generated for the same password is different each time.

Password Change

  1. Log in to the DMK platform.

The default account is SMNALL, and the default password is Cloud12#$.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Deploy Guide.
  3. On the Service Configuration page, select SMN, the required version, InstallNS, and the region of the operation.
  4. Select NO for Host Repository.
  5. Select NO for Blue-Green Deployment.
  6. Click Next to go to the Hosts and User Configuration page.
  7. Select the team and account you added.
  8. Click beside Configuration File. Configure sharedSecret under the sms_cmpp field (or encryptedContent under the sms_smpp field, depending on the SMS protocol) to the ciphertext you obtained in 4. The CMPP SMS gateway is used as an example. See Figure 14-2.

Figure 14-2 Changing the SMS Gateway Password

  9. Click Execute. Check the installation task status in the run logs. If the log page is closed, you can find the task by choosing Task Board in the navigation pane on the left.

Verifying Services on the SMN Console

Ensure that the SMN console has been deployed at the site.

  1. Log in to the management console, enter the SMN console, and switch to the region where you have deployed the SMN service.
  2. Create a topic.
  3. Add email and SMS message subscriptions to the topic.
  4. Ensure that the email and SMS message subscribers can receive the confirmation messages and confirm the subscription.
  5. Publish a message to the topic and verify that the email and SMS subscribers can receive the message.

If the SMN console is not available, you can verify services using the test script. For details, see section Installing the API Test Script.
