ALM-70135 The Ram Allocation Ratio Exceeds the Threshold

Description

After memory overcommitment is enabled on the host, the system periodically (5 minutes by default) checks the memory overcommitment rate. This alarm is generated when the memory overcommitment rate of the host exceeds the default alarm threshold (120% by default).

NOTE:

The memory overcommitment rate of the host is calculated as follows:

Host memory overcommitment rate = (Used memory – Memory reserved for VMs – Used huge page memory)/(Host physical memory – Reserved memory at the IaaS layer – Huge page memory)

Memory reserved for VMs = VM specifications x Memory reservation rate

The memory reservation rate can be adjusted on the FusionSphere OpenStack web client. The default value is 20%.

Passthrough VMs (GPU passthrough, SSD passthrough, SR-IOV passthrough, PF passthrough, FPGA passthrough, and NVDIMM passthrough) and huge page memory VMs do not support memory overcommitment. The memory reservation rate is 100%.

Possible Causes

A large number of VMs are running on the host.

Procedure

  1. Migrate some VMs on the host to another host to reduce the memory overcommitment rate of the host.

    For details, see "Migrating a VM" in the HUAWEI CLOUD Stack 6.5.0 O&M Guide.

  2. Wait for about 5 minutes and check whether the alarm is automatically cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, contact technical support for assistance.
