ALM-6021 Host Network Port Fault

Description

FusionSphere OpenStack periodically checks the host physical ports and the port bond statuses. This alarm is generated when a port is faulty or its port bond status is abnormal.

bond_mode: specifies the aggregation mode of the NIC for which the alarm is generated.

bond_name: specifies the aggregation name of the NIC for which the alarm is generated.

Impact on the System

The reliability of the communication between the network plane where the network port is located and external devices may deteriorate. The communication between the host that accommodates the port and the devices connected to the host may be interrupted.

Possible Causes

  • A network port on the host is not registered.
  • A network port on the host is disabled.
  • The network cable is disconnected or damaged.
  • A network port or the NIC on the host is faulty.
  • A port on the switch to which the host is connected through a network port is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the FusionSphere OpenStack web client.

    For details, see Logging In to the FusionSphere OpenStack Web Client (ManageOne Mode).

  2. Choose Configuration > Network, and click Configure NIC Mapping.

    Check whether the NIC name defined in PortName in Fault Location Info is displayed in the Physical NIC area.

    • If yes, manually clear the alarm.
    • If no, go to 3.

  3. On the Summary page, obtain the management IP address of the host in the OM IP Address column based on the host ID or host name in the alarm additional information.
  4. Use PuTTY to log in to the host for which the alarm is generated using the management IP address of the host.

    The default user name is fsp. The default password is Huawei@CLOUD8.

    The system supports both password and public-private key pair for identity authentication. If the public-private key pair is used for login authentication, see detailed operations in Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

  5. Run the following command and enter the password of user root to switch to user root:

    su - root

    The default password of user root is Huawei@CLOUD8!.

  6. If the alarm object in the alarm information is a NIC, for example, host=7E11E25E-5B64-E611-A32F-AC61751DAB72,object=nic1, run the cat /usr/bin/ports_info |python -mjson.tool|grep nic command to query the network port name.
  7. Run the ifconfigeth* command to check whether the network port is disabled. Specifically, check whether the UP field is displayed in the command output. If the field exists, the network port is not disabled.

    • If yes, go to 8.
    • If no, go to 9.

    eth* indicates the faulty network port, for example eth0.

  8. Run the ifconfig eth* up command to enable the network port. After 1 to 2 minutes, check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to 9.

  9. Check whether the network cable is disconnected or damaged.

    • If yes, replace the network cable and go to 10.
    • If no, go to 11.

  10. After 1 to 2 minutes, check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to 11.

  11. Replace the NIC by referring to "Replacing Hosts and Accessories" in HUAWEI CLOUD Stack 6.5.0 Parts Replacement. Then, wait for 1 to 2 minutes and check whether the alarm is cleared.

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, go to 12.

  12. Contact technical support for assistance.
