Configuring Backup Policies

This task describes how to configure automatic backup policies to adjust the auto-backup parameters.

Scenarios
  • Do not set the backup policies during the backup or restoration process.
  • In Region Type I scenarios, users can back up data in the cascading and cascaded systems as required.
Prerequisites
  • A PC is available to access the hosts in the AZ.
  • You have obtained information about the data center administrator account.
  • You have obtained the passwords of users fsp and root.
Procedure

Configure backup policies using the GUI.

  1. Log in to the FusionSphere OpenStack web client.

    For details, see Logging In to the FusionSphere OpenStack Web Client (ManageOne Mode).

  2. On the FusionSphere OpenStack web client, choose Configuration > System > System Backup.
  3. Set backup parameters based on Table 3-5.

    Automatic Backup

    Specifies whether to enable automatic backup. After the initial installation, automatic backup is enabled by default.

    Automatic Backup Time

    Specifies the automatic backup time

    Set this parameter to 02:00 in private cloud scenarios.

    Local backup max size

    The system saves seven backup packages by default.

    Set this parameter based on the actual volume of data to be backed up and the backup partition space. The default backup partition space is 20 GB. Ensure that the ratio of the maximum number of backup packages to the disk space is about 1:2.3 GB, so the maximum number of backup packages cannot exceed 8 (8 x 2.3 GB = 18.4 GB). If the configured number is greater than 8, the configuration personnel should assume responsibility for any risks incurred by the configuration.

    NOTE:

    Besides the backup packages specified by the Local backup max size value in the backup policy, local backup packages contain the all backup packages generated on the first day in the last two months. These backup packages are independent of the Local backup max size value, and they can be the same as the backup packages specified by Local backup max size. Therefore, when calculating the relationship between the backup package quantity and backup partition capacity, consider the backup packages generated on the first day in the last two months.

    An example is provided as follows (Local backup max size is set to 7):

    • If the last seven days ranging from the 29th day of the last month to the fifth day of this month (including the first day of this month), local backup packages include the backup packages generated within the last seven days and the one generated on the first day of the last month. Therefore, there are altogether eight local backup packages.
    • If the last seven days ranging from the 15th day of this month to the 21st day of this month, local backup packages include the backup packages generated within the last seven days, the one generated on the first day of this month, and the one generated on the first day of the last month. Therefore, there are altogether nine backup packages.

    Remote backup max size

    The system saves 30 backup packages by default.

    Set this parameter based on the actual requirements and the disk size of the third-party server.

    Backup server type

    NOTICE:

    If you set Backup server type to a value other than Local, you must use a third-party backup server. If you set Backup server type to Local, the backup is stored in a local directory, which incurs risks. The system will consistently report alarms.

    • Local: specifies that the local backup mode is used.
    • FTP: specifies that a remote backup server supporting FTP is used.
    • FTPS: specifies that a remote backup server supporting FTPS is used.
    • OBS(http): specifies that a backup server supporting OBS and HTTP is used. Do not use this type.
    • OBS(https): specifies that a backup server supporting OBS and HTTPS is used. It is more secure than OBS(http). Do not use this type.
    • SFTP: specifies that a remote backup server supporting SFTP is used.

    The following parameters are mandatory only when Backup server type is set to FTP, FTPS, or SFTP:

    NOTE:

    You are advised to connect the FTP or SFTP server to the External OM network. If the FTP or SFTP server network is not in the same network segment as the External OM network, configure the default gateway by performing operations provided in "Modifying System Configurations" in the HUAWEI CLOUD Stack 6.5.0 O&M Guide.

    • FTP/SFTP IP Address: specifies the IP address of the remote FTP/SFTP backup server.
    • FTP/SFTP port: specifies the port number of the remote FTP/SFTP backup server.
    • FTP/SFTP username: specifies the username for accessing the remote FTP/SFTP backup server.
    • FTP/SFTP password: specifies the password for accessing the remote FTP/SFTP backup server.
    • Confirm FTP/SFTP password: specifies the password for accessing the remote FTP/SFTP backup server.
    • FTP/SFTP path: specifies the backup path of the remote FTP/SFTP backup server. The path must start and end with a slash (/) and can contain hyphens (-) and underscores (_). Multiple path name components are separated using slashes (/). Two slashes (/) cannot be contiguous.
      • Relative path: If the working directory of the third-party backup server is /home/sftpuser/ and the actual backup path is /home/sftpuser/backup/_az1-dc1/, the relative path is /backup/_az1-dc1/.
      • Absolute path: For example, /home/sftpuser/backup/_az1-dc1/. Only the SFTP protocol supports absolute paths.

  4. After setting the parameters, click Submit. In the displayed Warning dialog box, click OK.

Configure backup policies using commands.

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the first FusionSphere OpenStack node through the IP address of the External OM plane.

    The default username and password are fsp and Huawei@CLOUD8, respectively.

    The system supports identity authentication using both the passwords and public-private key pairs. For details about login authentication using the public-private key pairs, see Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    NOTE:
    To obtain the IP address of the External OM plane, search for the required parameter on the Tool-generated IP Parameters sheet of the xxx_export_all.xlsm file exported from HUAWEI CLOUD Stack Deploy during software installation. The parameter names in different scenarios are as follows:
    • Region Type I scenario:

      Cascading system: Cascading-ExternalOM-Reverse-Proxy

      Cascaded system: Cascaded-ExternalOM-Reverse-Proxy

    • Region Type II and Region Type III scenarios: ExternalOM-Reverse-Proxy

  2. Run the following command to switch to the root user:

    su - root

    The default password of the root user is Huawei@CLOUD8!.

  3. Import environment variables. Enter 1 to select Keystone V3 authentication. Enter the password of user OS_USERNAME as prompted. (The default password is FusionSphere123.)

    enable

    Enables or disables the automatic backup function. true indicates that the automatic backup function is enabled, and false indicates that the backup function is disabled. The function is enabled by default.

    time

    This parameter takes effect only when enable is set to true.

    Specifies the time when the system automatically backs up data. The default time is 03:00. In the HUAWEI CLOUD Stack solution, set the time to 02:00, which must be consistent with that set for the components to be backed up. To minimize the adverse impact of automatic backup on system services, it is recommended that the automatic backup be performed during off-peak hours.

    localnumber

    Specifies the maximum number of local backup packages that can be stored. The system saves seven backup packages by default.

    Set this parameter based on the actual volume of data to be backed up and the backup partition space. The default backup partition space is 20 GB. Ensure that the ratio of the maximum number of backup packages to the disk space is about 1:2.3 GB, so the maximum localnumber value cannot exceed 8 (8 x 2.3 GB = 18.4 GB). If the configured number is greater than 8, the configuration personnel should assume responsibility for any risks incurred by the configuration.

    remotenumber

    Specifies the maximum number of backup packages that can be stored on a remote or third-party server. The system saves 30 backup packages by default.

    Set this parameter based on the actual requirements and the disk size of the third-party server.

    thirdurl

    • Specifies the URL of the third-party server. This parameter is left blank by default.
    • To improve data reliability, you can configure a third-party backup server to save the backup packages to the third-party server. After a third-party server is configured, the local backup packages synchronize with those on the third-party server to ensure data consistency.
    • The third-party backup server (including FTP Server, SFTP Server, or OBS) must be configured on the External OM network and can communicate with the node on which the backup service is deployed.
      If the OBS server is used, the URL format is uds[s]://<accesskey>:<secretkey>@<uds_url>/<bucket_name>.
      • uds[s]: specifies the transmission protocol that is used. udss indicates that the SSL encryption transmission is used. udss is recommended.
      • <accesskey>: specifies the public key used for logging in to the OBS service.
      • <secretkey>: specifies the private key used for logging in to the OBS service.
      • <uds_url>: specifies the domain name of the OBS server, for example, uds.dc1.domain.com.
      • <bucket_name>: specifies the OBS bucket name. Each AZ requires an independent OBS bucket.

      If the FTP server is used, the URL format is ftp[s]://<username>:<password>@<ftpaddress>//<path>.

      • ftp[s]: specifies the transmission protocol that is used. ftps indicates that the SSL encryption transmission is used. ftps is recommended.
      • <username>: specifies the username used for logging in to the FTP server.
      • <password>: specifies the password used for logging in to the FTP server.
      • <ftpaddress>: specifies the FTP server domain name, for example, az1.dc1.domain.com.
      • <path>: specifies the directory for storing data on the FTP server. Different AZs must be archived in different directories. For example, it is recommended that AZ1DC1 is archived to the /az1dc1 directory.

    abs-url

    Specifies the backup path type of the third-party backup server. The default value is false. Only the SFTP protocol supports absolute paths.

    • false: Use a relative path.
    • true: Use an absolute path.

    A command example is as follows:

    backup policy-set --enable true --time 02:00 --localnumber 7 --remotenumber 30 --thirdurl ftp[s]://<username>:<password>@az1.dc01.domain.com//bucket-for-az01dc01 --abs-url false

Checking Automatic Backup Data

This task describes how to check the automatic backup data.

Prerequisites
  • A PC is available to access the hosts in the AZ.
  • You have obtained information about the data center administrator account.
  • You have obtained the passwords of users fsp and root.
Procedure
  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the first FusionSphere OpenStack node through the IP address of the External OM plane.

    The default username and password are fsp and Huawei@CLOUD8, respectively.

Manually Backing Up Data

This task describes how to manually back up data of each service in an availability zone (AZ) when an important operation, such as critical data modification, is performed.

If an exception occurs or the operation has not achieved the expected result, the data backup can be used to restore the system to minimize the adverse impact on the system.

Scenarios
  • You are advised to back up data during off-peak hours.
Prerequisites
  • A PC is available to access the hosts in the AZ.
  • You have obtained information about the data center administrator account.
  • You have obtained the passwords of users fsp and root.
Procedure

Perform the backup.

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the first FusionSphere OpenStack node through the IP address of the External OM plane.

    The default username and password are fsp and Huawei@CLOUD8, respectively.

    The system supports identity authentication using both the passwords and public-private key pairs. For details about login authentication using the public-private key pairs, see Using PuTTY to Log In to a Node in Key Pair Authentication Mode.

    NOTE:

    The default registered backup services include cbs, cps, gaussdb, and mongodb. Users can also register and back up other services as required, for example, rabbitmq.

  5. Run the following command to back up data:

    Manual backup takes about 10 minutes.

    • service: When service is set to all, all registered services are backed up. When service is set to a specified service, the specified service is backed up. all is recommended.
    • force: specifies the faulty nodes to be ignored during backup. This field is reserved and is not recommended.

    For example, run the following command:

    backup execute --service all

Check the backup result.

  1. Run the following command to view the backup progress:

    backup progress-get --service service[--detail]

    service: When service is set to all, the progresses of all services are queried. When service is set to a specified service, the progress of the specified service is queried.

Backing Up Service OM

During HUAWEI CLOUD Stack Deploy installation, Service OM is automatically registered to the FusionSphere OpenStack backup service list to implement automated Service OM backup. If you need to manually back up Service OM, perform operations by referring to Unified Backup.

NOTE:

After ManageOne delivers the unified backup task, the original FTP server configuration on Service OM in the upgrade scenarios will be lost. It is strongly recommended that the configuration be deleted.

Checking Automatic Backup Data

This task describes how to check the automatic backup data.

Scenarios
  • For details about how to check automatic backup data using FusionSphere OpenStack, see Checking Automatic Backup Data.
  • This section describes how to check automatic backup data by backing up Service OM.
  • If the active/standby switchover is performed on management nodes during a manual or automatic data backup, the backup will fail.
  • If an automatic backup fails, the system generates an alarm for the failure and will not generate backup files at 02:00 on the day. If you need to back up data, perform a manual backup in such a condition.
Prerequisites
  • You have obtained the management IP address of the Service OM node and password of user galaxmanager.
  • You have obtained the IP address of and the username and password for logging in to the third-party backup server.
Procedure

Log in to the active Service OM node.

  1. Use PuTTY and the management IP address of the Service OM node to log in to the active Service OM node.

    The default username and password are galaxmanager and IaaS@OS-CLOUD9!, respectively.

    NOTE:
    To obtain the management IP address of the Service OM node, search for the required parameter on the Tool-generated IP Parameters sheet of the xxx_export_all.xlsm file exported from HUAWEI CLOUD Stack Deploy during software installation. The parameter names in different scenarios are as follows:
    • Region Type I scenario: Cascading-OM-externalOM-Float-IP
    • Region Type II and Region Type III scenarios: OM-externalAPI-Float-IP

  2. Run the following command to switch to the root user:

    su - root

    The default password of the root user is IaaS@OS-CLOUD8!.

  3. Run the TMOUT=0 command to disable user logout upon system timeout.

Check the local backup result.

  1. Run the following command to switch to the directory containing the automatic backup files:

    cd /opt/gmbackup/db/

  2. Run the following command to view the backup file in the directory:

    ll

  3. Check whether the latest backup file is included.

    • If yes, go to no further action is required.
    • If no, contact technical support for assistance.
