Architecture

Figure 8-32 shows EVS-related components and the position of the EVS disk in the system architecture when the EVS disk provides storage space for the BMS.

Resource pools

FusionSphere OpenStack Nova

Nova manages computing instances. In the EVS service, Nova is used to obtain the information about volumes on VMs and deliver commands to Cinder.

FusionSphere OpenStack Cinder

Cinder provides durable block storage for running instances. In the EVS service, Cinder is used to create virtual volumes on storage devices and attach volumes to VMs.

FusionSphere OpenStack Ironic

Provides a series of APIs for managing physical machines and can manage physical machines with bare OSs.

Physical machine pool

FusionSphere OpenStack provides resource-based and management capabilities for virtual compute and provides management capabilities of resource pools, such as the physical machine pool.

Block storage pool

FusionSphere OpenStack provides the resource-based and management capabilities for virtual storage, and provides management capabilities of block resource pools.

Infrastructure

Servers, storage devices, and network devices

This layer provides physical resources required for building a DC, including servers, storage devices, and network devices. This layer also provides the virtual computing, virtual storage, and virtual network resource pools built based on physical resources, as well as physical server resources that can be directly used. This layer provides multiple types of hardware deployment architecture based on different service requirements.

Service Flow

Figure 8-33 shows the service flow through which the EVS disk provides storage space for the BMS.

  1. A VDC administrator or VDC operator applies for resources on the ManageOne operation plane.
  2. The ManageOne operation plane delivers requests to the combined API through the ECS UI.
  3. Combined APIs distribute the request to Cinder.
  4. Cinder creates volumes in the storage pool according to storage resource application policies.
  5. The BMS attaches block storage to the physical machine.
  6. Nova notifies Ironic of the volume attachment.
