What Is a Hyper-V ECS?

A Hyper-V Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) is a scalable computing server provided by SCVMM. By interconnecting Hyper-V Service with an SCVMM resource pool, Hyper-V ECSs can be centrally managed on ManageOne.

Concepts

Hyper-V IMS

An image is an Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) template that contains software and mandatory configurations. Specifically, an image contains an operating system (OS) and may also contain proprietary software and application software, such as database software. You can use a Hyper-V image to create a Hyper-V ECS or convert a Hyper-V ECS to a Hyper-V image.

Hyper-V Region and AZ

A region refers to the physical location of a Hyper-V ECS. Creating Hyper-V ECSs in different regions can better suit user requirements. For example, applications can be designed to meet user requirements in specific regions or comply with local laws or regulations. Hyper-V ECS pricing also changes based on region.

Each region contains many availability zones (AZs) where power and networks are physically isolated. AZs in the same region can communicate with each other over the intranet. Each AZ provides cost-effective and low-latency network connections that are unaffected by any possible faults in other AZs. Therefore, deploying Hyper-V ECSs in separate AZs protects your applications against faults that may occur in a specific location.

Hyper-V Data Storage

Data storage of Hyper-V Service is a virtualized storage technology that implements dynamic storage services by centrally managing and allocating physical storage resources.

Hyper-V ECSs have the following advantages:

  • They are cost-effective than traditional servers.
  • They help users better manage computing resources.

Application Scenarios

Hyper-V ECSs are virtual computing facilities that can be scaled in or out based on your requirements. You can rent computing and storage resources based on your needs at a low cost. Therefore, your hardware cost is reduced. The unified management platform is provided to reduce maintenance and management difficulties. You only need to focus on services, as shown in Figure 41-2.

  • Applications

    Web servers, R&D and testing environments for developers, and small-scale databases

  • Characteristics

    General-purpose ECSs are suitable for applications that have no special requirements on vCPU performance, memory, disk capacity, or bandwidth, but have high requirements on security and reliability. They feature low initial investment and maintenance costs.

  • Application scenarios

    Enterprise website deployment, enterprise office environment setup, and enterprise R&D and testing activities

Workflow

  1. VDC administrators or VDC operators apply for Hyper-V ECS resources from the ManageOne operation plane. Hyper-V Service delivers the operation request to Compute for processing.
  2. Scheduler filters and sorts the operation requests.
  3. CoreTask processes tasks in sequence.
  4. API Gateway distributes requests to SCVMM.

Accessing and Using Hyper-V ECS

FusionCloud provides a web-based service management platform, which users can access with the ManageOne operation plane.

Users can use the ManageOne operation plane to access EIP. If you are a VDC administrator, VDC operator, or have the operation rights for the cloud service, you can directly log in to the ManageOne operation plane and choose this cloud service under Product or Console.
