Information Collection

After faults occur on eBackup, you can use system messages such as error codes to rectify faults. If no system message is displayed when a fault occurs, or a fault cannot be rectified after you take measures by following the instructions in the system message, you can collect alarms, events, and logs in eBackup to locate and rectify the fault.

Collecting System Messages and Alarm Information

After faults occur, handle them as instructed in system messages and alarm information.

  • eBackup provides details about all jobs. Causes for the failure of most jobs are available in job details. You can locate root causes based on job details and then take troubleshooting measures.
  • eBackup provides comprehensive error code information, including error causes and recommended actions. You can handle errors based on error codes.
  • eBackup can report alarms to ManageOne. Therefore, you can log in to ManageOne OC to view and handle alarms.

Collecting Log Information

You can periodically export log data for checking and analysis to get accurate information about the backup server.

  • You have obtained a SmartKit installation package of V2R5C00RC4 or a later version. This section uses V2R5C00RC4 as an example. The package name is SmartKit Obtain the installation package as follows:
  • Obtained the user name and password for logging in to SmartKit from the system administrator or related product documentation.
  • Obtain the OceanStor BCManager (for SUSE operating system), or OceanStor BCManager (for Euler operating system ) from the following websites:

    The software package name changes with the actual software version, software package must be the actual version in use.


    When downloading a software package, obtain the .asc signature file and use the digital signature public key and validation tool provided by the Huawei support website to validate the software package integrity.

    1. Click the download button to download the digital signature file (.asc) that has the same name as the software package. Specifically:
      • For enterprise users:
      • For carrier users:
    2. The public key file, verification tool and its usage can be obtained as follows:
  • The eBackup server is normal.
  • Obtain the backup management plane IP address of the eBackup and hcp account password. The initial password of the hcp is PXU9@ctuNov17!. Change the password regularly for security purposes.

Run logs of eBackup will be compressed and dumped. You can view the retention policy of run logs in file /opt/huawei-data-protection/ebackup/conf/hcplogrotate.conf on any eBackup server. Details are as follows:

  • maxage indicates the retention period of compressed log files (unit: day).
  • rotate indicates the number of retained compressed log files.
  • size indicates the specified size of each log file. When a log file reaches the value of size (unit: MB), the log file will be compressed and dumped.
  1. Decompress OceanStor BCManager or OceanStor BCManager in the maintenance terminal.

    Three files are obtained:


  2. Install and log in to SmartKit.


    The operation of SmartKit may vary between different versions.

  3. After you log in to SmartKit, if a message is displayed asking you to upgrade tools, click Upgrade.
  4. On the menu bar, choose > ToolStore.
  5. Click Import to import the inspection tool package.
  6. In the Verification and Installation window, select Inspection, and click Install.

  7. After the import is successful, Import succeeded message is displayed. Click OK.
  8. In the main window, choose > MyTools > Storage > Routine Maintain > Inspection.

  9. In the window that is displayed, click Routine inspection under Inspection type. Click Next.

  10. Click Add Device.

  11. Configure basic login information.

    1. Enter the IP address of an eBackup server.

      If the HA function is disabled, enter the physical IP address of the management plane of the eBackup server in the IP Address text box.

      If the HA function is enabled, enter the floating IP address of the eBackup server in the IP Address text box.

    1. If passwords are not used to log in to the eBackup server, click Customize Authentication. In the dialog box that is displayed, select an authentication mode, and click OK.

  1. Click Next.
  2. Configure authentication information.

    • Username and password authentication

    Default account: hcp; default password: PXU9@ctuNov17!.

    • Publickey authentication

      Set Username to hcp, select a key file, enter the key password, and then click Finish.

      If the following dialog box that is displayed, click OK.

      If the following dialog box that is displayed, click OK.

  1. Choose the device, click Next.

    The Select Check Items dialog box is displayed.

  2. By default, all inspection items are selected. You can select the items you want to check, and click Next.
  3. Select a path for saving the inspection result file, and click Next. The system automatically starts the inspection task.

  4. When the inspection is completed, click Open the result directory or View the report to view the inspection result.
  5. If Not passed exist in the inspection report, go to the next step. Otherwise, the inspection is completed.
  6. Log in to eBackup graphical user interface (GUI).
  7. On the navigation bar, choose Monitor > Event. View events whose severity is warning and handle the events according to suggestions.

    If the check items whose check results are Not passed are not displayed on the eBackup GUI, contact technical support engineers.
