Usage Guidelines

Usage Scenario

To analyze and monitor packets passing through a port, run the mirror to { observe-port | observe-server } { both | inbound | outbound } command to enable port mirroring.

The device supports mirroring incoming packets, outgoing packets, and both incoming and outgoing packets.

In local port mirroring, the local observing port has been configured using the observe-port command.

  • An observing port can be applied to port mirroring and traffic mirroring simultaneously. However, you cannot identify the source of mirrored packets by using the display interface command.

  • Port mirroring does not affect system security but affects system performance. To ensure system performance, disable port mirroring when you do not need to monitor traffic.

  • To configure mirroring on a port again, run the undo mirror { both | inbound | outbound } command to delete the existing configuration first.

  • To ensure that all mirrored packets are transmitted to the observing port, configure the same link type and bandwidth for the mirrored and observing ports.

# Mirror all incoming packets on GE0/0/1 to the observing port.
