How Can I Repair a Storage Device Where an Exception Occurred?

  • Run the dir command to display information about a specified file or directory on the device. If the command output contains unknown, for example, 30,000 KB total (672 KB free, 25,560 KB used, 3,616 KB unknown), run the fixdisk device-name command in the user view to release the unknown space.

Do not run the fixdisk device-name command if the device is functioning normally.

  • If no file is displayed after you run the dir command, but the storage space is occupied, the following scenarios may occur:

    • Deleted files are in the recycle bin. In this case, run the dir /all command to display all files, including deleted files (the filenames of deleted files are enclosed in square brackets []). To restore deleted files, run the undelete command. To delete the files in the recycle bin, run the reset recycle-bin command.
    • Deleted files are not in the recycle bin. In this case, if no file is displayed after you run the dir command on the device but the storage space is occupied, handle the problem as follows: If you do not want to restore files in the storage device, run the format command to format the device and release all its storage space. If you want to restore files in the storage device, check whether a hardware fault occurs on the storage card using either of the following methods:
      • Install the storage card to another device and run the dir command to check the file list. If the file list contains no file, the storage card is faulty. Replace the storage card or the MPU. For details, see "Component Replacement" in the Hardware Installation and Component Replacement.
      • Install the storage card to another device and run the dir command to check the file list. If the file list contains files, the exception is not caused by the storage card. Contact technical support personnel.

  • After you run the fixdisk device-name or format command, all the files and directories in the specified storage device will be deleted. Exercise caution when determining whether to run these commands because the files and directories cannot be restored after being deleted.
  • The fixdisk device-name and format commands cannot rectify device-level faults.
