Modifying Flash Description Area

Modifying Flash Description Area

When the system software on a switch is damaged and you cannot log in to the switch, you can use the uBoot to upload the system software, configuration file, and patch file to the switch, and configure the switch to start using the uploaded files. In this way, you can restore and upgrade the system software.

Before modifying startup configurations, upload specified files to the flash memory as explained in Ethernet Submenu.

  1. In the BootLoad menu, select 3 to access the submenu for modifying the flash description.

            BootLoad Menu
         1. Boot with default mode
         2. Enter ethernet submenu
         3. Modify Flash description area
         4. File system submenu
         5. Enter password submenu
         6. Clear password for console user
         7. Reboot
    Enter your choice(1-7): 3

  2. Specify the system software.

    'Enter' = use current information
    current startup file
    new startup file name:

    Enter the name of the specified system software and press Enter. If the current system software is available and does not require changing, directly press Enter.

    • The specified system software must be available and stored in the flash memory; otherwise, the switch fails to start. If the startup using the specified system software fails for five consecutive times, the switch starts using the system software in the last successful startup.

    • When new system software is configured, the system checks the system software integrity. If the digital signature of the system software is invalid, the configuration fails. Therefore, ensure the system software validity.

    • If the system software to be specified is V200R008 or an earlier version, you must restore the default BootLoad password first according to Restoring the BootLoad Password and then specify the system software. Otherwise, the BootLoad password will not be used or a fault occurs on the switch. If the BootLoad password cannot be used after the downgrade, run the reset boot password command to restore the default BootLoad password again.

  3. Specify the configuration file.

    Saved-configuration file
    '.'=clear field; 'Enter'=use current configuration;
    new=change to other configuration file;
    new    :

    Enter the name of the specified configuration file and press Enter. If the service configuration does not require resetting, directly press Enter. By default, the switch uses the configuration file

    • If you press the period (.) key, the existing configuration file is deleted.
    • If you press Enter, the current configuration file is used without any change.

  4. Specify the patch file.

    Saved-patch file
    '.'=clear field; Enter=use current patch;
    new=change to other patch file;
    new    :

    Enter the name of the patch file and press Enter. The BootLoad menu is displayed. Press Enter if you do not need to upgrade the patch file. The submenu for modifying the flash description is displayed. By default, no patch file is specified.
