Configuring a Virtual Template


A virtual template contains the negotiation parameters required for PPPoE authentication, including authentication methods, negotiation timeout interval, and maximum receive unit (MRU).


  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface virtual-template vt-number

    A virtual template is created or a virtual template view is displayed.

  3. Run ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length }

    An IPv4 address is configured for the virtual template.

  4. (Optional) Run ppp authentication-mode { auto | chap | pap }

    The authentication method is configured for PPPoE users.

    By default, the authentication method for PPPoE users is CHAP.


    To ensure security, PAP authentication is not recommended.

  5. (Optional) Run ppp mru mru

    The MRU is set for PPP negotiation.

    By default, the MRU for PPP negotiation is 1492 bytes.

  6. (Optional) Run ppp timer negotiate seconds

    The PPPoE negotiation timeout interval is set.

    By default, the PPPoE negotiation timeout interval is 3s.
