(Optional) Enabling the Switch to Rapidly Sending Gratuitous ARP Packets During an Active/Standby Switchover of a VRRP Group Triggered by the Associated Peer BFD Session

(Optional) Enabling the Switch to Rapidly Sending Gratuitous ARP Packets During an Active/Standby Switchover of a VRRP Group Triggered by the Associated Peer BFD Session

Context

On a network where association between a VRRP group and a peer BFD session is configured, when the peer BFD session on the backup detects a fault on the active link, the peer BFD session instructs the VRRP group to perform an active/standby switchover. The new master sends gratuitous ARP packets to its downstream Layer 2 device through the software protocol stack so that traffic is switched to the new master.

To speed up traffic switching, run this command to enable the switch to rapidly send gratuitous ARP packets during an active/standby switchover of a VRRP group triggered by its associated peer BFD session. When the peer BFD session on the backup detects the fault on the active link, the hardware rapidly sends gratuitous ARP packets to its downstream Layer 2 device so that traffic is switched to the new master.

NOTE:

The device supports this function only when the MPU is ET1D2MPUA000 or ET1D2MPUDC00.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number.subinterface-number

    The sub-interface view is displayed.

  3. Run vrrp track bfd gratuitous-arp send enable

The switch is enabled to rapidly send gratuitous ARP packets during an active/standby switchover of a VRRP group triggered by its associated peer BFD session.

By default, the switch is not enabled to rapidly send gratuitous ARP packets during an active/standby switchover of a VRRP group triggered by its associated peer BFD session.
