Basic Concepts of Cloud-based Management

Basic Concepts of Cloud-based Management

Cloud Management Platform

The cloud management platform is a core component in the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution and uniformly manages Huawei network devices, such as access points (APs), access routers (ARs), switches, and firewalls. The platform can implement unified multi-tenant management, allow plug-and-play network devices, support batch network service deployment, and provide Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to interoperate with 3rd-party platforms for value-added service expansion.

NETCONF is an XML-based network management protocol. In the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution, the cloud management platform uses NETCONF to manage Huawei network devices. NETCONF-enabled network devices provide standard APIs for application developers to develop customized network management software on third-party software. This software facilitates network device management.

Registration Center

The registration center is a main component in the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution and allows querying device management mode and home cloud management platform. The cloud management platform synchronizes the device information imported by administrators to the registration center in real time. Switches then send requests to the registration center, automatically change to the cloud-based management mode, obtain the cloud management platform's address information, and become plug and play.

Cloud-based Management Mode

The cloud-based management mode is the device management mode of switches in cloud-based management state. Switches work in traditional management mode by default. To implement unified network cloud platform management, you must first change switches to the cloud-based management mode. Switches in cloud-based management mode are cloud switches.

Management VLAN

A management VLAN is the VLAN to which the interface connecting a switch to a DHCP server belongs in the Huawei Cloud Managed Network Solution, and is maintained and delivered to a cloud switch by the cloud management platform.

Plug and Play VLAN (PNP VLAN) is the VLAN used to implement plug and play of cloud switches. This VLAN is maintained by the cloud management platform, preconfigured on the cloud management platform, and automatically delivered to a cloud switch after the cloud switch registers with the cloud management platform. PNP VLAN and management VLAN can be the same or different.
