Configuring a CSS MAC Address

Configuring a CSS MAC Address

The MAC address of the master switch is often used as the CSS MAC address when a CSS is set up. If you restart the CSS or remove and replace an MPU in the CSS, the CSS MAC address may change, resulting in service interruptions. To avoid this problem, set the CSS MAC address to the MAC address of a member switch. The CSS then uses the same MAC address every time it restarts.

  1. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.
  2. Run the set css system-mac chassis chassis-id command to set the CSS MAC address to the MAC address of a specified member switch.

If the specified MAC address is the same as the current CSS MAC address, the configuration takes effect immediately. Otherwise, you need to restart the CSS to make the configuration take effect.

Verifying the Configuration

  • Run the display css system-mac command to display the CSS MAC address.
