Preventing Timing Loops Between BITS Interfaces

Context

A switch supports bidirectional communication on a BITS interface.

When the SSM quality level is used in clock source selection, unidirectional communication causes timing loops. This is because the SSM quality level returned from the remote end may be the same as the SSM quality level sent from the local end, affecting clock source selection for the BITS interface. To address this issue, set the S1 byte of the SSM message sent to the local BITS interface to DNU. This prevents the clock from participating in clock source selection.

Perform the following operations on the peer device.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run clock force-out-s1 { s1-prc | s1-ssu-t | s1-ssu-l | s1-sec | s1-dnu | else-s1-byte } { bits0 | bits1 }

    The S1 byte of the SSM message sent to the local BITS interface is set to DNU so that this clock does not participate in clock source selection.
