  • Member switch roles

Switches in a CSS are CSS member switches. Every CSS member switch plays either of the following roles:
    • Master switch

The master switch manages the CSS. A CSS has only one master switch.

    • Standby switch

The standby switch acts as a backup to the master switch. If the master switch fails, the standby switch takes over all services from the master switch and assumes the CSS master role. A CSS has only one standby switch.

  • CSS ID

CSS IDs are used to identify and manage CSS member switches. Every member switch has a unique CSS ID.

  • CSS priority

The CSS priority of a member switch determines the role of that member switch in role election. A larger value indicates a higher priority and therefore a higher probability that the member switch is elected as the master switch.
