Configuring Layer 3 Multicast CAC for All Multicast Groups

Configuring Layer 3 Multicast CAC for All Multicast Groups

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring Layer 3 multicast CAC, deploy a Protocol Independent Multicast - Sparse Mode (PIM-SM) network, and enable PIM-SM and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) (or configure static multicast groups) on the interfaces directly connected to user network segments.

Context

Layer 3 multicast CAC can limit the number of all multicast groups globally or on an interface.

Procedure

  • Limiting the number of all multicast groups globally
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run multicast-channel [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ]

Layer 3 multicast CAC is enabled, and the multicast-channel view is displayed.

    3. Run multicast limit limit [ threshold threshold ]

A global CAC limit is configured for all multicast groups in the system. If you specify the threshold parameter in the command, the system will record alarm information when the number of multicast groups exceeds the configured threshold.

  • Limiting the number of all multicast groups on an interface
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run multicast limit out { max-entry limit | bandwidth traffic-rate } *

A CAC limit is configured for all multicast groups on the interface.

Verifying the Configuration

After you complete the configuration, run the following commands to check the configuration.

  • Run the display multicast [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] limit global command to check global CAC statistics.
  • Run the display multicast [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] limit out-interface { interface-type interface-number | all } command to check CAC statistics on an interface.
