Configuring the Multicast Forwarding Table Optimization Mode

Configuring the Multicast Forwarding Table Optimization Mode

Context

By default, the system preferentially allocates hardware resources to IP routing tables, and the MFIB shares hardware resources with the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) cache table.

If a large number of ARP cache entries and multicast forwarding entries share hardware resources, you can configure the multicast forwarding table optimization mode. In this mode, the system preferentially allocates hardware resources to the MFIB, and the ARP cache table shares hardware resources with IP routing tables.

After you configure the optimization mode or restore the default mode, the system will display a message asking you whether to restart the device. If you do not respond to the message, the system returns to the system view and does not restart. A restart will cause a short-term service interruption, so this command is not recommended.

NOTE:

This command is not supported by X series and EE series cards.

This function can be implemented on an IPv6 network only when an LPU with an extended entry register is available. In addition, the storage mode of the register must be set to IPv6 mode. For details on how to configure the extended entry register, see Configuring the Resource Mode of Extended Entry Space in "Hardware Management" in the S7700 and S9700 V200R013C00 Configuration Guide - Device Management.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run set multicast forwarding-table optimization-mode [ slot slot-id ]

The multicast forwarding table optimization mode is configured.
