Configuring Layer 2 Multicast CAC for a Channel

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring Layer 2 multicast CAC for a channel, enable IGMP snooping to implement forwarding of multicast packets.

Configuration Procedure

Perform the following tasks in the listed order.

Configuring a Group Address Range for a Channel

Context

To control the number of multicast groups in a specified channel, configure a group address range for the channel. You can create a global channel or virtual switching instance (VSI) channel. A global channel applies to all the VSIs, and a VSI group takes effect only for the specific VSI. A VSI channel cannot have the same name as a global channel.

After you configure a group address range for a channel, the switch forwards multicast data to all groups by default, including the groups out of the configured range. If you want the switch to forward only multicast data of the groups in the configured range, run the unspecified-channel deny command to filter out multicast data of groups out of the range.

Procedure

  • Configuring a global channel
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run l2-multicast-channel

      The global l2-multicast-channel view is displayed.

    3. Run channel channel-name type { asm | ssm }

      A channel is created, and the channel view is displayed.

    4. Run group group-address { group-mask-length | group-mask } [ source source-address { source-mask-length | source-mask } ]

      A group address range is configured for the global channel.

    5. Run quit

      Exit from the channel view.

    6. (Optional) Run unspecified-channel deny

      The device is configured not to forward multicast data to the groups out of the group address range.

  • Configuring a VSI channel
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run l2-multicast-channel vsi vsi-name

      The VSI l2-multicast-channel view is displayed.

    3. Run channel channel-name type { asm | ssm }

      A channel is created, and the channel view is displayed.

    4. Run group group-address { group-mask-length | group-mask } [ source source-address { source-mask-length | source-mask } ]

      A group address range is configured for the VSI channel.

      NOTE:

      The group address range for a VSI channel cannot overlap with the group address ranges for other channels in the same VSI or the group address ranges of global channels.

    5. Run quit

      Exit from the channel view.

    6. (Optional) Run unspecified-channel deny

      The device is configured not to forward multicast data to the groups out of the group address range.

Limiting the Number of Multicast Groups in a Channel

Context

On a virtual private LAN service (VPLS) network, Layer 2 multicast CAC can limit the number of multicast groups in a channel at three levels: global, virtual switching instance (VSI), and attachment circuit (AC) side or pseudo wire (PW) side interface. CAC limit values at different levels can be used together to flexibly control the number of multicast groups.

Procedure

  • Limiting the number of multicast groups in a channel globally
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run l2-multicast limit channel channel-name max-entry count

      A global CAC limit is configured for multicast groups in a channel.

  • Limiting the number of multicast groups in a channel in a VSI
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run vsi vsi-name

      The VSI view is displayed.

    3. Run l2-multicast limit channel channel-name max-entry count

      A CAC limit is configured for multicast groups in a channel in the VSI.

  • Limiting the number of multicast groups in a channel on an AC-side interface
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run l2-multicast limit channel channel-name max-entry count

      A CAC limit is configured for multicast groups in a channel on the AC-side interface.

      NOTE:

      Perform this step if the AC-side interface bound to the VSI is a physical interface that has been switched to Layer 3 mode using the undo portswitch command. If the interface is a VLANIF interface, you can configure a CAC limit on the Layer 2 interface in the corresponding VLAN. For details, see l2-multicast limit channel channel-name max-entry count [ vlan { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10> ] in "VLAN-based Layer 2 CAC Commands."

  • Limiting the number of multicast groups in a channel on a PW-side interface
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run vsi vsi-name

      The VSI view is displayed.

    3. Run pwsignal ldp

      The VSI-LDP view is displayed.

    4. Run l2-multicast limit channel channel-name max-entry count remote-peer ip-address [ negotiation-vc-id vc-id ]

      A CAC limit is configured for multicast groups in a channel on the PW-side interface.

Verifying the Layer 2 Multicast CAC Configuration for a Channel

Prerequisites

The Layer 2 multicast CAC configuration for a channel is complete.

Procedure

  • Run the display l2-multicast limit configuration global channel channel-name command to check the global Layer 2 multicast CAC configuration for a channel.
  • Run the display l2-multicast limit configuration vsi [ vsi-name ] channel channel-name command to check the Layer 2 multicast CAC configuration for a channel in a VSI.
  • Run the display l2-multicast limit interface interface-type interface-number channel channel-name command to check the Layer 2 multicast CAC configuration for a channel on an AC-side interface.
  • Run the display l2-multicast limit configuration vsi vsi-name remote-peer ip-address [ negotiation-vc-id vc-id ] channel channel-name command to check the Layer 2 multicast CAC configuration for a channel on a PW-side interface.
  • Run the display l2-multicast-channel [ vsi [ vsi-name ] | global ] [ channel channel-name ] command to check the configuration of a channel.
