Configuring an XGE Interface to Work in LAN/WAN Mode

Configuring an XGE Interface to Work in LAN/WAN Mode

Context

Based on the physical feature, XGE interfaces work in the following modes:
  • LAN mode: XGE interfaces working in LAN mode transmit Ethernet packets and connect to Ethernet networks. XGE interfaces working in LAN mode provide a maximum rate of 10000 Mbit/s.
  • WAN mode: XGE interfaces working in WAN mode transmit synchronous optical network (SONET)/synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) frames and connect to upper-layer SONET/SDH networks. The upstream devices can be switches or optical network transmission devices. Interfaces working in WAN mode transmit packets at the physical layer of SONET/SDH, providing highly reliable point-to-point data connections. XGE interfaces working in WAN mode comply with OC-192/STM-64 (9553 Mbit/s) standards and use a fixed data transmission rate of 9553 Mbit/s.

As shown in Figure 2-7, XGE1/0/1 of SwitchA works in WAN mode and connects to XGE1/0/2 of SwitchB through the SONET/SDH network. XGE1/0/1 encapsulates Ethernet packets into SONET/SDH frames for transmission on the SONET/SDH network.

NOTE:
  • Only XGE interfaces on the LE1D2S04SX1C, LE1D2S04SX1E, LE1D2S04SEC0, LE0DT24XEA00, LE0DS24XEA00, LE0D0S24XC00, LE1D2S24XED0, and LE0DX12XSA00 cards can be switched to WAN mode. XGE interfaces on the LE0DX12XSA00 cards can be switched to WAN mode only when the transmission distance is shorter than 80 km.
  • For X1E series, X1C series, X1L series, and LE1D2S04SEC0 cards, when XGE interfaces work in WAN mode, the interfaces support the maximum frame length of 2560 bytes.
  • PTP and WAN mode cannot be used together.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface xgigabitethernet interface-number

    The XGE interface view is displayed.

  3. Run set port-work-mode { lan | wan }

    The interface working mode is configured.

    By default, an XGE Ethernet interface works in LAN mode.
