CloudBackup Feature Guide

In the event of data loss or corruption in the source LUN or LUN consistency group, you can select the backup image at a specified point in time to restore the data.

CloudBackup supports both full and incremental restoration.

Full restoration

All data of the LUN or LUN consistency group is restored using the selected backup image.

This mode restores a large amount of data and takes a long time.

Incremental restoration

By comparing snapshots, the system restores only the changed data between the backup time and restoration time to the LUN or LUN consistency group.

This mode only restores a small amount of data on the addresses with data changes, which is much faster than full restoration.


Incremental restoration can be implemented only when data is restored to the source LUN (or source LUN consistency group) and the backup image used for the restoration is generated by the latest backup. If these requirements are not met, full restoration is performed.

Restoration Process

Figure 1-3 shows how CloudBackup restores data.

  1. Select a backup image for data restoration.

    During the backup process, CloudBackup generates multiple backup images at different points in time according to the backup plan. You can select the desired backup image to restore data.

  2. Select the LUN or LUN consistency group to be restored.

    If the protected object is a LUN, you can restore the data to either the source LUN or another existing LUN; if the protected object is a LUN consistency group, you can restore the data to either the source or another existing LUN consistency group.

  3. CloudBackup restores the data.

    CloudBackup reads the data from the specified backup image on the local NAS share or the cloud and writes the data to the LUN or consistency group.
