How Do I Apply for a Teleport Device and Perform the First Full Backup to the Cloud in Offline Mode?

How Do I Apply for a Teleport Device and Perform the First Full Backup to the Cloud in Offline Mode?

Question

How do I apply for a Teleport device and perform the first full backup to the cloud in offline mode?

Answer

NOTE:
  • CloudBackup supports the first full backup in offline mode, which greatly reduces the time window for the first backup. Subsequent incremental backup tasks are performed online.
  • Currently, only HUAWEI CLOUD supports offline data transmission. The Teleport device of the Data Express Service (DES) is used for offline transmission.
  • The following example uses the OBS bucket as the backup storage. For disaster recovery by using CloudBackup with OceanStor BCManager eReplication and HUAWEI CLOUD CBR, the backup storage must be the buckets of the hybrid cloud backup vault of HUAWEI CLOUD CBR.

Follow the procedure to apply for a Teleport device and perform the first full backup to the cloud in offline mode:

  1. Create a bucket on HUAWEI CLOUD OBS (https://www.huaweicloud.com/product/obs.html) to serve as backup storage.
    NOTE:

For details on how to apply for and configure the OBS, see its user guide on this website.

  2. Apply for a service order for the bucket in the DES (https://www.huaweicloud.com/product/des.html).
    NOTE:
    • You are advised to read the Data Express Service User Guide on the DES website (https://www.huaweicloud.com/product/des.html), which will help you with the configuration.
    • Region indicates the data center. Ensure that it is the same as the region of the OBS bucket. You can switch the region in the upper left corner of the DES service order page.
    • Set Transmission Mode to By Teleport. By Disk is not supported.
    • The Teleport Specifications must be sufficient for the backup data. For example, if you want to back up two 3 TB LUNs in full scale to the OBS bucket, the Teleport device capacity must not be smaller than 6 TB.
    • Write the following information in the remarks of the service order: "When importing data, replace duplicate files if any."
    • In the Transmission Configuration area, you can only specify the Destination Bucket to which data will be imported, but cannot specify the Teleport File or Import Directory.
  3. The Teleport device will be sent to your data center by courier.
  4. Unpack the Teleport device and connect it to the OceanStor Dorado V3 storage system. Then power on the Teleport device and configure its logical IP address.
    NOTE:

For details about the cable connection and configuration, see "Receiving Teleport and Cabling" in the Data Express Service User Guide.

  5. Create an S3 backup storage pool on DeviceManager. When creating the pool, select Offline Storage Unit and enter the share path (format: Teleport device's logical IP address (or domain name):/share name) of the Teleport device in Path.
    NOTE:

The share name of the Teleport device is teleportshare, which has been configured in factory. You can check this information in "Copying Data" in the Data Express Service User Guide.

  6. Create a repository by following instructions in Creating a Repository.
  7. Create a backup plan by following instructions in Creating a Backup Plan.
    1. When creating the backup plan, select Enable Offline Transmission. If you do not select this option when creating the backup plan, you can select the plan after it is created and choose More > Enable Offline Transmission.
    2. When creating the backup plan, select Run to start a backup task immediately. If you do not select this option when creating the backup plan, you can select the plan after it is created and choose More > Run.
  8. After the backup task is complete, select the backup plan and choose More > Pause Offline Transmission.
    NOTE:
    • After data has been transmitted to the Teleport device, you must download a signature file from the DES console and import it to the root directory of the Teleport share.
    • The signature file is the unique identifier of the Teleport device in a DES service order, which ensures that the imported data matches the service order. Do not encrypt the signature file.
    • For details, see "Downloading and Importing the Signature File" in the Data Express Service User Guide.
  9. Power off and pack the Teleport device, and return it to the HUAWEI CLOUD data center by courier.
    NOTE:

Refer to the DES service order for the address of the data center.

  10. After the Teleport device reaches the HUAWEI CLOUD data center, you will receive an SMS message, asking you to input the access keys (AK and SK). Log in to the DES console and input the AK and SK by following instructions in "Starting Data Transmission" in the Data Express Service User Guide. After the AK and SK are submitted successfully and pass the verification, data transmission starts.
  11. After the data is imported, you can download the data transmission report from the DES console to check whether all data is successfully imported. After verifying that all data has been imported, select the backup plan on DeviceManager and choose More > Disable Offline Transmission (for details, see Disabling Offline Transmission). In subsequent backup tasks, data will be transmitted to the object storage online.
