Creating Clones for Multiple Parent File Systems

Cloning multiple parent file systems will quickly generate multiple copies of the parent file systems at the snapshot point in time. Each copy matches a parent file system.

Prerequisites

  • A file system exists in the storage system and is running properly.

Context

  • The creation of a clone file system has no impact on the parent file system.
  • The created clone file system and parent file system belong to the same controller.
  • The created clone file system and parent file system belong to the same storage pool.
  • You can create clones for existing clone file systems. A maximum of eight levels of clone file systems can be created.
  • A clone cannot be created for a clone file system that is being split.
  • A clone cannot be created for a WORM file system.

Procedure

  1. Choose Data Protection > Clone.
  2. Click the File System tab.
  3. Click Create.

    The Create Clone File System dialog box is displayed.

  4. Create clone file systems for multiple parent file systems.

    1. Set Mode to Select multiple parent file systems.
      NOTE:

      If you select All in the file system tree on the left and then click Create, the storage system will create clones for all the file systems by default.

    2. In the lower table, select the parent file systems for which you want to create clone file systems.
    3. Set parameters of the clone file systems.

      Table 2-2 describes related parameters.

    Snapshot used to create a clone file system. You can create a snapshot or use an existing snapshot to create a clone file system.

    • New snapshot. The storage system will automatically generate a snapshot at the current point in time.
    • Click Browse to use existing snapshots, including common snapshots, timing snapshots, and HyperReplication/NAS HyperMetro/HyperVault private snapshots.
    NOTE:
    • Using an existing snapshot to create a clone file system will not change the data of this snapshot.

    Specifies the type of a clone file system.

    NOTE:

    By default, the type of a clone file system is consistent with that of its parent file system.

    Name of a clone file system.

    NOTE:

    The name of a clone file system must meet the following rules:

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name contains only letters, digits, and underscores (_).
    • The name contains 1 to 255 characters.

  5. Click OK.

    The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful.

  6. Click Close.

Follow-up Procedure

After the clone file system is created, you can share it with application servers, and check whether data under the shared directory of the clone file system is consistent with the parent file system.
