Application Scenarios

HyperClone for file can be quickly deployed and occupies small storage space occupation. Source data read/write will not be affected and multiple file system copies can be created. Therefore, this feature can be used independently or together with other features in scenarios such as application testing and data analysis, DR tests, and IT operation and maintenance (O&M).

Application Testing and Data Analysis

Application testing refers to the testing of a software system's functions, performance, security, and availability. Data analysis is the process of researching a great amount of data and extracting useful information to provide support for decision making. Both application testing and data analysis involve heavy data reads/writes. Clone file systems provide the same data as the parent file systems at the point in time when clone was performed. Reading data from the clone file systems can prevent impact on the production system. Figure 1-4 illustrates the process.

DR Tests

HyperClone for file can work with HyperReplication or HyperMetro to clone the file systems in the DR center. The clone file systems can be used for DR testing to confirm data availability in the DR center. Reading and modifying data in the clone file systems will not affect data in the production and DR systems.

You can create multiple clones for a file system at a point in time for IT O&M, such as production reports and data tests. Figure 1-6 shows the scenario.
