Adding a Remote Link

Adding a Remote Link

If the reliability of host services needs to be enhanced, add more remote links to ensure link redundancy.

There is a remote storage device to which a link can be added.

Each controller has a maximum of eight links available for connecting to a remote device. At most eight of these links can be used for replication when you add a remote device.

  • To add a heterogeneous iSCSI link, you must first add a heterogeneous remote device. After the device is added, an iSCSI link will be added automatically.
  • To add a heterogeneous Fibre Channel link, connect the local and remote storage arrays using an FC cable. After the connection is established, a Fibre Channel link will be added automatically.

  1. Choose Data Protection > Remote Device.
  2. Select a remote storage device (Device Type must be Replication) to which you want to add a link and click Add Link.

The Add Link dialog box is displayed.

  3. Add a remote iSCSI link or a remote Fibre Channel link.

    • To add a remote iSCSI link:
      • To ensure data transfer security between storage systems, you are advised to use a device such as a security gateway to encrypt links to prevent information leakage.
      • If user authentication fails, modify the authentication information.
      1. Set Link Type to iSCSI.
      2. Set the parameters listed in Table 5-4.
Table 5-4 Parameters for the iSCSI link

        Immediate Data

The immediate data function can accelerate data transfer over iSCSI replication links between storage arrays. You are advised to enable this function.

Name of the local storage device's controller connected to the remote storage device.

        Local Port

Local storage device's front-end port connected to the remote storage device.

        IP Address

IP address of the front-end port on the remote storage device.

      3. Click OK.

The Success dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

      4. Click OK.
    • To add a remote Fibre Channel link:

If user authentication fails, modify the authentication information.

      1. Set Link Type to FC.
      2. Select the Fibre Channel link that you want to add and click OK.

The Success dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

      3. Click OK.

Follow-up Procedure

If error code 1073804034 occurs or the connection fails to be created, see What Can I Do If the Remote Connection Fails to Be Created with the TOE Interface Module.
