Adding a Remote Storage Device

Adding a Remote Storage Device

This operation establishes the logical connection between the local and remote storage systems for data transmission.

Prerequisites

  • The local and remote storage systems have been properly connected.
  • If a firewall is deployed, ports 36061 and 3260 have been enabled.

Context

The local and remote storage systems must be connected by either Fibre Channel or iSCSI links.

NOTE:
  • Before you add a remote device on a Fibre Channel network, clear the zone configurations for the ports that the switches use to connect to the storage systems. It is recommended that you allocate no more than two ports in any zone to prevent the number of remote links from exceeding the system's specifications.
  • Each controller has a maximum of eight links available for connecting to a remote device. At most eight of these links can be used for replication when you add a remote device.

Procedure

  1. Choose Data Protection > Remote Device.
  2. Click Add Remote Device.

The Add Remote Device Wizard dialog box is displayed.

  3. Select Replication, and click Next.

    • If Running Status of an added link is Invalid, delete and add the link again.
    • To ensure data transfer security between storage systems, you are advised to use a device such as a security gateway to encrypt links to prevent information leakage.
    • If the local and remote storage systems are of different versions, you must add the remote device on the newer version device. Otherwise the operation may fail.

  4. Set up the connection to the remote device.

    • Adding an iSCSI link
      1. Set Link Type to iSCSI.
      2. Set the parameters listed in Table 3-4.
        Table 3-4 iSCSI link parameters

        Parameter

        Description

        Setting

        Controller

Name of the local storage device's controller connected to the remote storage device.

        [Example]

        CTE0.A

        Local Port

Local storage device's Ethernet port connected to the remote storage device.

        [Example]

        CTE0.A.IMO1.P0

        IP Address

IP address of the Ethernet port on the remote storage device.

        [Example]

        192.168.26.12

        Username

Account used for remote device authentication.

        [Value]

        • The default user name of the machine-machine user is mm_user.
        • Obtain the super administrator or administrator account on the remote device.

        Password

Password of the account used for remote device authentication.

        [Value]

        • The default password of the machine-machine user is mm_user@storage.
        NOTE:

You are advised to change your password periodically using the change mm_user password command to reduce the password leakage risks. For details about how to use the command, see the Command Reference of the corresponding product model.

        • The password of the super administrator or administrator account is consistent with the password on the remote device.

        TCP/IP Port

Ethernet port number on the remote storage device.

        [Example]

        3260

    • Adding a Fibre Channel link
      1. Set Link Type to FC.
      2. In the Fibre Channel link list, select a Fibre Channel link.
      3. Set the parameters listed in Table 3-5.
Table 3-5 Fibre Channel link parameters

        Parameter

        Description

        Setting

  5. Click Next.

    The information summary is displayed.

  6. Click Finish.

The operation result is displayed. If you want to add another link for redundancy, select Continue adding links and click Close. If you do not want to add more links, deselect this option and click Close.

    NOTE:

To add more links after the remote device has been added, you can select the remote device from the remote device list and click Add Link on the navigation bar, or right-click the device and choose Add Link from the shortcut menu.

Follow-up Procedure

If error code 1073804034 occurs or the connection fails to be created, see What Can I Do If the Remote Connection Fails to Be Created with the TOE Interface Module.
