Impact and Restrictions

Impact and Restrictions

This section describes the restrictions on using HyperVault.

Restrictions on the Versions of the Source and Backup Storage Systems

  • Before creating a HyperVault pair, ensure that the Alternate Data Streams (ADS) status of the primary file system is the same as that of the secondary file system. Otherwise, the HyperVault pair fails to be created.
    NOTE:

the ADS function is enabled by default. When creating a file system, you can set the ADS status in the advanced properties. Once the function is enabled, the ADS status cannot be set again. If the ADS function is disabled and no file systems are added to a HyperVault pair, the ADS function can be enabled again.

  • When you create a HyperVault pair, the primary and secondary file systems must have the same long file name settings. Otherwise, the pair cannot be created.
    • The long file name function is enabled by default and is valid only for individual file systems. Once it is enabled, you cannot disable it.
    • You can only change the long file name settings using the create file_system general or change file_system general command. The long_filename_enabled parameter in the command controls whether to enable this function. For more details about the command, see the command reference corresponding to your product model.
      NOTE:

You cannot modify the long file name settings for file systems that are already in a HyperVault pair.
