Registering a Device

Registering a Device

This section describes how to register a device with SystemReporter to monitor the device's running status.

  • The IP address of the device that you want to register has been obtained.
  • The user name and account of an administrator, super administrator, or device administrator of the storage system have been obtained. The resource administrator or read-only user cannot be used to register the device.
  • The registered devices are less than two sets.
  • The SystemReporter server's access to ports 8088, 8080, and 22 of storage arrays must be ensured. Otherwise, the SystemReporter server may fail to connect to storage arrays.

  1. Go to the dialog box for registering a device.
    1. In the main menu area, click System.
    2. In the left navigation tree, choose System Configuration > Registration and Configuration.
    3. In the right function pane, click Register Device.

The Register Device dialog box is displayed.

A maximum of two storage devices can be registered with the SystemReporter system by default.

  2. Register a device.

When you register devices of earlier versions with SystemReporter, it communicates with the devices using TLS 1.0. There may be security risks.

    1. Set basic information about the device, as described in Table 3-3.

      Table 3-3  Basic device parameters

      IP address

IP address of a storage system management port.

      [Value range]

Support IPv4 address and IPv6 address

Super administrator, administrator, and device administrator.

A device administrator can register a device but has no permission to view directories of a registered device.

Password of a storage system administrator or super administrator.

      Pulic Key

After Public Key is selected, you need to import a private key file and enter the password.
      • To import a private key file, click Browse behind User Key.
      • When you use a public key for authentication, SystemReporter will save the private ket on the service as a device authentication credential.

    2. Click OK.

The Success dialog box is displayed, indicating that the registration request succeeds.

If an alarm indicating that the device has an untrusted security certificate is reported, follow instructions in the Security Configuration Guide of the corresponding version to configure a trusted certificate.

    3. Click OK.

When the status of the device displays as Registration Succeeded in the function pane, the device is registered successfully.

Follow-up Procedure

After the device is registered, you can perform the operation described in Table 3-4.

Table 3-4  Subsequent operations
