Configuring the Notification Server

You can configure a mail or short message server to send alarm information to a specified email address or mobile phone number.

Context

  • Only the SOCKS5 proxy can be used for the email server. The proxy server adopting the SOCKS protocol is a universal SOCKS server.
  • SOCKS proxy
    • The SOCKS protocol provides a framework that enables the client/server application programs in the TCP and UDP domains to conveniently and securely use the network firewall.
    • The SOCKS proxy is usually used in the email or short message service and is bound to port 1080 on the proxy server.
    • If the SOCKS proxy service requires identity authentication, apply to the network administrator for a user name and password.

Procedure

  1. Go to the notification server configuration page.
    1. On the menu bar, choose System.
    2. In the navigation tree, choose System Configuration > Notification Server Configuration.

      The notification server configuration page is displayed.

  2. Configure the email server.
    1. In the short message server area of the function pane, click Modify.

      The Modify Email Server dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set parameters about the email server. Table 3-8 describes the parameters.

      SMTP server

      IP address of the SMTP server used for sending alarm notification emails.

      • Configure the SMTP server in standard mode.
      • The SMTP server supports an IPv4 address or IPv6 address.

      Server port

      Port number of the SMTP server.

      The value must be an integer from 1 to 65,535.

      Sender email

      Email address for sending alarm notifications or data export tasks.

      Security protocol

      Security protocol used for communication between the email server and the SystemReporter server.

      [Value range]

      The value can be Disable security protocols, SSL, or TLS.

      NOTE:
      • If the email server disables the security protocol or enables the SSL 1.0 or SSL 2.0 non-security protocol, the communication between the email server and the network management server may encounter security risks. Therefore, the TLS security protocol is recommended.
      • If Disable security protocols is selected, the default port number is 25; if SSL is selected, the default port number is 465; if TLS is selected, the default port number is 587.

      Test email

      Mail address used to test the communication between the SystemReporter server and the email server.

      SMTP server authentication

      Whether the SMTP server authenticates senders' identities. If SMTP server authentication is not specified, the Username and Password cannot be configured.

      User name for accessing the SMTP server.

      Password for accessing the SMTP server.

      [Value range]

      The password contains 1 to 32 characters.

      Proxy server

      Provides information about the proxy server.

      Proxy server port

      Port ID used by the proxy server.

      The value must be an integer from 1 to 65,535.

    3. Click Test to check whether the communication is normal between the SystemReporter server and the email server.

      If the test mailbox receives the test message, the communication is normal between the SystemReporter server and the email server. If the test mailbox does not receive the test message, an error message will be displayed. Troubleshoot the fault according to the message.

    4. Click OK.

      The Success dialog box is displayed.

      NOTE:
      If a system alarm is displayed indicating that an untrusted security certificate exists on the email server, follow instructions in the Security Configuration Guide of corresponding version to configure a trusted certificate.

    5. Click OK.
  3. Configure the short message server.
    1. In the short message modem area of the function pane, click Modify.

      The Modify SMS Server dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set parameters about the short message server. Table 3-9describes the parameters.

      Parameter

      Serial port identifier

      Identifier of the SystemReporter server's serial port used for connecting to the short message modem.

      Set the serial port identifier according to the actual condition.
      • In Windows, if the SystemReporter server is connected to the short message modem through serial port COM1, set the serial port identifier to COM1.
      • In Linux, if the SystemReporter server is connected to the short message modem through serial port COM1, set the serial port identifier to /dev/ttyS0. If the SystemReporter server is connected to the short message modem through the USB-to-serial converter, set the serial port identifier to /dev/ttyUSB0.

      Baud rate

      Baud rate of the short message modem.

      Set the baud rate according to the actual condition.

      Test phone number

      Mobile phone number used for testing the communication between the SystemReporter server and short message modem.

    3. Click Test to test the communication between the short message modem and the SystemReporter server.

      If the test mobile phone can receive the test message, the communication is normal between the SystemReporter server and the short message modem. If the test mobile phone does not receive the test message, an error message will be displayed. Troubleshoot the fault according to the message.

    4. Click OK.

      The Success dialog box is displayed.

    5. Click OK.
