Upgrading the Database

Upgrading the Database

This chapter describes how to upgrade MySQL database to GaussDB database. While the database is upgrading, the data in the original database are also replicated to new database.

Before upgrading the database, ensure that the MySQL and GaussDB database services have been started.

  1. Decompress the installation package of the new tool, Under tool decompression Directory\Runtime\bin, execute convertMysql2gaussdb.bat.
  2. Enter the user name, password, and port of MySQL and GaussDB when prompted to copy data from MySQL to GaussDB.

Do not close the command window during data replication. Otherwise, the upgrade will experience an exception.

    The following shows an example:

After all data is copied from MySQL to GaussDB, MySQL will no longer be used. You

    can uninstall MySQL.

If the execution fails, perform the following operations:

    • Check whether the user names, passwords, and port numbers of the two databases are correct.
    • Check whether the two database processes are in the running state. (Start the task manager to check whether the mysql and gaussdb processes exist.)
    • Check whether the decompressed folder name contains space characters. If a space character exists, the upgrade fails.
    • Check whether the decompression path is too long. It is recommended that you place the decompression path in the root directory.

  3. After the execution succeeds, "The convert progress is finished." is displayed in the dialog box, as shown in the following figure:
