Function

The add notification trap command is used to add new trap addresses for notifying alarms. This command is executed when a third-party network management system (NMS) is connected to the storage system Device Management Console.

add notification trap < trap_version > < trap_type > < server_ip_or_domain > < server_port > [usm_user]

trap_version SNMP protocol version.

Various SNMP protocol versions use various communication modes. The SNMP protocol has the following versions:

  • SNMPv1.
  • SNMPv2c.
  • SNMPv3.
Note: The agent-addr address of SNMPv1 is the back-end IP address of the storage system management node. SNMPv1 is not remmended.
trap_type Trap type.
  • Parsed: Trap IP address defined by Parsed. Sends parsed alarms to a trap server(Trap OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.2011.2.91.10.2.1.0.1).
  • Original: Trap IP address defined by Original. Sends original alarms to a trap server(Trap OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.34774.4.1.4.2).
  • All: Trap IP addresses defined by Parsed and Original. Sends parsed and original alarms to a trap server.
NOTE: Parsed and Original are two forms of one alarm. An alarm in the Original form carries only original alarm parameters, whereas an alarm in the Parsed form is readable and processed based on the original form.
server_ip_or_domain Trap address.

The value is an IP address or domain name for receiving alarms. The domain name contains 1 to 255 letters, Each level of the domain name contains 1 to 63 letters, digits, and hyphens (-). Domain names at various levels are separated by periods (.) and cannot start or end with a hyphen (-). The top-level domain name cannot contain digits only.The trap IP address needs to be able to communicate with the management network.

server_port Trap port number.

The value is an integer.

When trap_type is set to Parsed or all, the value ranges from 162 to 65,535.

When trap_type is set to Original, the value ranges from 1 to 65,535.

usm_user usm user name. When the trap version is V3, you must specify an usm user name, press Ctrl+A to view available list.

The value contains 1 to 39 characters and cannot contain only spaces.

Usage Guidelines

  • After this command is executed, you can run the show notification trap command to view the result.
  • SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c are not recommended because they are insecure. We recommend to use SNMPv3.

Example

Add new trap addresses for notifying alarms.
