Replacing the Li&Mn Battery

Impact on the System

  • Before replacing the Li&Mn battery, you must power off the storage node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node. Exercise caution when performing this operation.


  • The replacement Li&Mn battery is ready.
  • You have recorded the cable mapping of the device, securely stopped the services, executed a shut-down command in the operating system to power off the storage node, and disconnected the node from power sockets and peripheral devices.

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels


  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Use the KVM to log in to the operating system of the node, enter user name root and its password (default: Root@storage), and run poweroff command to power off the node.

    Wait until the KVM has no output. The power-off is complete.

  3. Remove all power cables and external signal cables.
  4. Remove the storage node from the enclosure.
    1. Slide the storage node out of the cabinet, as shown in step 1 in Figure 2-137.
    2. Press the baffle plate and slide the storage node out of enclosure, as shown in step 2 in Figure 2-137.

  5. Remove the enclosure cover.
    1. Use a flat-head screwdriver to loosen the latch that secures the ejector lever of the enclosure cover, as shown in step 1 in Figure 2-138.
    2. Open the ejector lever to push the enclosure cover backwards, as shown in step 2 in Figure 2-138.

  6. Remove the Li&Mn battery.
    1. Pull up the right end of the battery and remove it from the slot. See Figure 2-139.

  7. Place the removed Li&Mn battery in an ESD bag.
  8. Take the spare Li&Mn battery out of its ESD bag.
  9. Install the Li&Mn battery.
    1. Hold the battery with the side marked with text facing upwards, insert the left end of the battery into the slot, and gently press down the battery until it is properly installed in the slot. See Figure 2-140.

  10. Install the enclosure cover.
    1. Place the enclosure cover horizontally, align it with the fixing slots on both side panels of the enclosure, and close the ejector lever, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in Figure 2-141.
    2. Use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the latch in order to secure the ejector lever of the enclosure cover, as shown in step 3 in Figure 2-141.

  11. Put the storage node into the cabinet.
    1. Align the securing holes in the inner rails with the positioning pins on the storage node, and secure the inner rails to the storage node, as shown in step 1 in Figure 2-142.
    2. Align the inner rails with the holding rails, and push the storage node into the holding rails, as shown in step 2 in Figure 2-142.
    3. Ensure that the storage node is horizontally installed and screwed.

  12. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Then power on the storage node.
  13. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 V5 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the Li&Mn battery, label the replaced Li&Mn battery to facilitate subsequent operations.
