Replacing a Front Mounting Ear Plate

Replacing a Front Mounting Ear Plate

The storage node has two front mounting ears. One is on the left of its front panel, and the other is on the right. This topic uses the front mounting ear on the left as an example.

Impact on the System

  • Before replacing the left/right mounting ear, you must power off the storage node. This will adversely affect the services running on the node. Exercise caution when performing this operation.

Prerequisites

  • The replacement left/right mounting ear is ready.
  • You have recorded the cable mapping of the device, securely stopped the services, executed a shut-down command in the operating system to power off the storage node, and disconnected the node from power sockets and peripheral devices.

Tools and Materials

  • Flat-head screwdrivers
  • Phillips screwdrivers
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist straps
  • ESD bags
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Use the KVM to log in to the operating system of the node, enter user name root and its password (default: Root@storage), and run poweroff command to power off the node.

Wait until the KVM has no output. The power-off is complete.

  3. Remove all power cables and external signal cables.
  4. Remove the storage node from the enclosure.
    1. Loosen the captive screws on the storage node panel using a screwdriver, as shown in step 1 in Figure 5-98.

    2. Pull out the storage node along the guide rails away from the cabinet, as shown in step 2 in Figure 5-98.
    3. Push the release button upward, and remove the storage node with the inner rails. See Figure 5-99. Note that four people are required to lift the storage node.

  5. Remove the left mounting ear plate.
    1. Hold the cover of the left mounting ear, pull it gently, slide it leftwards, and remove it, as shown in steps 1 and 2 in Figure 5-100.

    2. Remove the left mounting ear plate, as shown in step 3 in Figure 5-100.
  6. Remove the cable from the left mounting ear plate.
  7. Place the removed left mounting ear plate in an ESD bag.
  8. Take the spare left mounting ear plate out of its ESD bag.
  9. Connect the cable of the left mounting ear plate.
  10. Install the left mounting ear plate.
    1. Install the left mounting ear plate, as shown in step 1 in Figure 5-101.
    2. Install the cover, as shown in step 2 in Figure 5-101.

  11. Put the storage node into the cabinet.
    1. Lift the storage node, align the inner rails with the holding rails, and push the storage node into the rack. See Figure 5-102. Note that four people are required to lift the storage node.

    2. Press the release buttons on both sides, and push the storage node into the cabinet until the storage node cannot move forward, as shown in Figure 5-103.

    3. Tighten the captive screws on the mounting ears to secure the storage node, as shown in Figure 5-104.

  12. Connect the storage node to the power sockets and peripheral devices according to the cable connection labels. Then power on the storage node.
  13. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 V5 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the mounting ear plate, label the replaced mounting ear plate to facilitate subsequent operations.
