Replacing a Power Module

Replacing a Power Module

Power modules support 1+1 redundancy and are hot-swappable.

Impact on the System

None

Prerequisites

  • The replacement power module is ready.
  • The faulty power module has been located.

Precaution

Before replacing a power module, disconnect it from the external power source. Otherwise, device damage or even personal injury may occur.
  • Use care when you remove and insert a disk module to avoid any damage to the appearance or connectors of the power module.
  • Remove the faulty power module and insert the replacement one within 2 minutes.
  • When installing a power module, do not place fingers over the power module. Otherwise, your fingers may be hurt.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Optional: If you are going to configure only one power module, power off the node.
  3. Undo the velcro strap that secures the power cable, as shown in Figure 3-9.

  4. Remove the power cable from the PSU to be replaced, as shown in Figure 3-10.

  6. Place the removed PSU in an ESD bag.
  7. Take the spare PSU out of its ESD bag.
  8. Push the spare PSU along the guide rails into a slot until the PSU clicks into place. The PSU latch snaps in so that the PSU does not move, as shown in Figure 3-12.

  11. View the power module indicators to check whether the installation is successful.

    • If the power module indicators are steady green, the installation is successful.
    • If the power module indicators are off, the power module is improperly installed. In this case, remove and reinsert the power module.

  12. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 V5 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the power module, label the replaced power module to facilitate subsequent operations.
