Dropping Unknown Multicast Flows

Dropping Unknown Multicast Flows

Context

Unknown multicast flows are multicast data flows that match no entry in the multicast forwarding table. By default, the router broadcasts unknown multicast flows in the corresponding VLAN. Dropping unknown multicast flows reduces instant bandwidth usage compared with the broadcast mode.

NOTE:

AR2204-24GE, AR2204-27GE, AR2204-27GE-P, AR2204-48GE-P, AR2204-51GE, AR2204-51GE-P, AR2204-51GE-R, AR2204E, AR2204E-D, AR2204XE, AR2204XE-DC, AR2220L, AR2220E and AR2240C do not support this function.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run vlan vlan-id

    The VLAN view is displayed.

  3. Run multicast drop-unknown

The router is configured to drop unknown multicast flows.

    NOTE:

After the multicast drop-unknown command is configured, the router drops all unknown multicast packets, including the protocol packets that are transparently transmitted within the VLAN and use the reserved multicast address.
