Understanding Interface Monitoring Groups

All monitored network-side interfaces can be added to a group, called an interface monitoring group. Each interface monitoring group is identified by a unique name. The monitored network-side interfaces are called binding interfaces. The access-side interfaces associated with an interface monitoring group are called track interfaces. As shown in Figure 3-1, the interface monitoring group has 10 binding interfaces. A down-weight can be set for each binding interface. Interfaces a, b, c, and d are track interfaces. A trigger-down-weight can be set for each track interface.

An interface monitoring group monitors the status of the binding interfaces. If the number of binding interfaces that go Down reaches a certain value, the status of corresponding track interfaces becomes Down. When the number of binding interfaces in the Down state is smaller than a certain value, the corresponding track interface goes Up again.

As shown in Figure 3-1, the down-weight of each binding interface is set to 10, and the trigger-down-weights of track interfaces a, b, c, and d are 80, 50, 30, and 20 respectively. If two binding interfaces go Down, track interface d is triggered to go Down. If eight binding interfaces go Down, track interface d is triggered to go Down. If the number of binding interfaces in the Down state in the interface monitoring group is smaller than 8, the status of interface a will become Up again.

Currently, an interface monitoring group can monitor the physical status and BFD status of interfaces.
