DCU Selection

DCU selection depends on the communication mode between the DCU and DCP and between the DCC and smart meters. A DCU can communicate with the DCP through GPRS/3G or Ethernet, a DCU can communicate with a DCC through PLC, a DCU can communicate with a smart meter through PLC or RF, and a DCU can communicate with a DCC or a smart meter through DLMS.
  • Communication between DCUs and the DCP: DCUs are sparsely deployed onsite. In areas where cabling is inconvenient or the cabling cost is high, DCUs need to communicate with the DCP through GPRS/3G. In areas where DCUs are centralized and cabling is convenient, the wired mode can be used.
  • Communication between DCUs and DCCs or smart meters: PLC can be used in dense areas. In areas where smart meters are sparsely distributed, RF or GPRS can be used. If GPRS is used, GPRS meters directly communicate with the DCP through network interfaces, without using any DCU.
The Huawei AR530 is used as the DCU. The AR530 has two models: AR531GPe-U-H and AR532. Table 4-2 describes the communication modes supported by the two models.
