Troubleshooting Microwave Link Establishment Failures

This section describes the symptoms and possible causes when the RTN510 fails to establish microwave links. In addition, this section describes the required tools, precautions, and procedures for rectifying the failure.

Symptom

The RTN510 fails to establish microwave links.

Possible Cause

  • Cause 1: The whitelist is enabled, and the remote RT is not on the whitelist.
  • Cause 2: The SSID and password are incorrect.
  • Cause 3: When the AP works in RT mode or the RT works in Relay mode, it does not complete mode switching.
  • Cause 4: The SSIDs are not changed in co-site scenarios (it is recommended that the SSIDs of co-sited devices be set to different values).
  • Cause 5: The antenna is not aligned.
  • Cause 6: In NLOS scenarios, microwave transmission is severely blocked by obstacles.

Procedure

  1. Cause 1: The whitelist is enabled, and the remote RT is not on the whitelist.
    1. Check whether the whitelist function is enabled on the device.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 1.b.

      No

      Go to 2.

    2. Check whether the air-interface MAC addresses of all the RTs on the same network are on the whitelist.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 2.

      No

      Add the corresponding RT to the whitelist.

      1. Check the air-interface MAC address of the RT. You can obtain the MAC address by viewing the device label or from the Radio page of the web-based NMS.
        NOTE:
        • In versions earlier than V100R002C00, the air-interface MAC address of the RT is the MAC address on the nameplate of the device plus 1.
        • In V100R002C00 and later versions, the air-interface MAC address of the RT is the MAC address on the nameplate of the device.
      2. Add the air-interface MAC address of the RT to the whitelist.
      3. Check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 2.

  2. Cause 2: The SSID and password are incorrect.
    1. Check whether the SSIDs and passwords of the devices on the same PtMP or PtP network are the same (the default SSID is Huawei500 and the password is Changeme_123).

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 3.

      No

      1. Change the SSIDs and passwords of the devices on the same PtMP or PtP network to be the same.
      2. Check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 3.

  3. Cause 3: When the AP works in RT mode or the RT works in Relay mode, it does not complete mode switching.
    1. Check whether to configure the AP to work in RT mode or configure the RT to work in Relay mode.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 3.b.

      No

      Go to 4.

    2. Check whether the AP or RT changes its running mode.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 4.

      No

      1. Based on actual conditions, change the working mode of the AP to RT or the working mode of the RT to Relay.
      2. Check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 4.

  4. Cause 4: The SSIDs are not changed in co-site scenarios (it is recommended that the SSIDs of co-sited devices be set to different values).
    1. Check whether the SSIDs of co-sited devices are the same.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      1. It is recommended that the SSIDs of co-sited devices be set to different values to prevent incorrect access.
        NOTE:

        Change the SSIDs of the remote devices on the same PtMP or PtP network at the same time.

      2. Check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 5.

      No

      Go to 5.

  5. Cause 5: The antenna is not aligned.
    1. Check whether the azimuth angle and elevation angle of the antenna are correct according to the network plan.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Go to 6.

      No

      1. Use a compass to adjust the azimuth angle and elevation angle of the antenna according to the network plan.
      2. Observe the RT indicators (indicating the receive power) to fine-adjust the antenna.
      3. Check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 6.

  6. Cause 6: In NLOS scenarios, microwave transmission is severely blocked by obstacles.
    1. Search for AP signals on the RT and check whether AP signals can be found.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      Check whether there are other causes that lead to the microwave link establishment failure.

      No

      Go to 6.b.

    2. Check whether the onsite environment is completely blocked by obstacles.

      If...

      Then...

      Yes

      You are advised to use the relay solution or change the site. Then, check whether the microwave links are established successfully. If no, go to 7.

      No

      Go to 7.

  7. If the failure persists, contact Huawei technical support engineers.
