Check Before the vCenter Plug-in Installation

Scenarios

Before installing the vCenter plug-in, check the connectivity between the local IP and the vCenter.

  • If vCenter runs on Windows, see Windows.
  • If vCenter runs on Linux, see Linux.

Windows

  1. Use the remote desktop connection tool of the local PC to log in to the computer used to deploy vCenter.
  2. Choose Start > Run.
  3. Enter cmd and press Enter.

    The command line interface is displayed.

  4. Check whether the local PC can be pinged from vCenter.

    Command: ping Local PC IP address

    Example: ping 192.168.53.22

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, reconfigure an IP address for the local PC.

Linux

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the vCenter.
    • Host name: management IP address of the vCenter
    • Default user name: root
    • Default password: password set by the user
  2. Check whether the local PC can be pinged from vCenter.

    Command: ping Local PC IP address

    Example: ping 192.168.53.22

    • If yes, no further action is required.
    • If no, reconfigure an IP address for the local PC.
