Obtaining Images for Overcloud Nodes

The director requires the following disk images for provisioning Overcloud nodes:

  • An interospection kernel and ramdisk: used for bare metal system discovery over PXE boot.
  • A deployment kernel and ramdisk: used for system provisioning and deployment.
  • An Overcloud kernel, a ramdisk, and a full image: a basic Overcloud system that is written to the node's hard disk
  1. Obtain these images from the rhosp-director-images and rhosp-director-images-ipa packages.

  2. Upload the image packages to /home/stack/images/.

  3. Decompress files.

  4. Import these images to the director.

    openstack overcloud image upload --image-path /home/stack/images/  

  5. The following images will be uploaded to the director: bm-deploy-kernel, bm-deploy-ramdisk, overcloud-full, overcloud-full-initrd, and overcloud-full-vmlinuz. These images are used for deployment and the Overcloud. The script also installs the interospection images on the director's PXE server.

  6. Run the openstack image list; ls -l /httpboot command to view the images.
