NTP Service Planning

NTP Service Planning

To keep the time of the eLog analyzer, log collectors and log sources the same, you must plan the network time protocol (NTP) service.

NTP service is used to synchronize the time of all devices that have a clock to maintain consistent time and time zone keeping on a network.

The purposes for planning the NTP service are as follows:

To ensure that the queried log information is correct, you must keep the time of log sources, log collectors, and the eLog analyzer the same.

The principle for planning the NTP service is as follows:

  • If a standard external clock source is available, it is recommended that you configure the eLog analyzer, log collectors, and log sources as NTP clients to follow the external clock source.
  • If no standard external clock source is available, it is recommended that you can configure the eLog analyzer as the NTP server, log collectors, and log sources as NTP clients.
  • If a large number of managed log sources are present on the network, you are advised to configure a standard external clock source or manually adjust the time of log sources. If the eLog analyzer is configured as NTP servers, the running efficiency of the eLog analyzer may decrease.
  • The eLog analyzer can act as a clock source only when the network has no more than 10 log sources. Otherwise, the analyzer performance will be affected.
