Installation Procedure

Installation Procedure

This section describes the procedure for installing the eLog collector service.

Prerequisites

  • The checks before log collector installation have been complete, and all detected issues have been resolved. For details, see Check Before Installation.
  • Ensure that the installation files are in the analyzer /opt/software directory.

Centralized Deployment

  1. Log in to the eLog web UI.
  2. Choose System > Installation & Maintenace > System Installation.
  3. Select Centralized deployment, enter the user name and password of the collector operating system, and view the host IP address and installation path.
    NOTE:

In centralized deployment, the collector and analyzer are on one server. Therefore, the IP address and OS password of the collector are the same as those of the analyzer. If the web access port and service port of the analyzer have different IP addresses, the IP address of the collector shall be the same as that of the analyzer service port.

By default, a collector receives only the logs of the NIC corresponding to the selected IP address (management IP address). If you select Receive Logs of All NICs, the collector will receive the logs of all NICs. Deselecting this option is recommended. Otherwise, the system receives useless logs, consuming resources.

  4. After confirmation, click Next to start the environment check.
  5. After the environment check is complete, click Next to start collector installation.

Before installation, ensure that the analyzer and collector are connected. Otherwise, the installation fails.

    NOTE:
    • After the collector is installed, it is automatically displayed in System > System Management > Host on the eLog web UI. The default host alias is the collector host name. You can click the host alias and set the alias on the page displayed.
    • After the host is installed, the host is displayed as offline, and a host offline alarm is generated. Wait for around 30 seconds for the host to be automatically updated to the online state and for the alarm to be cleared.

Distributed Deployment

  1. Log in to the eLog web UI.
  2. Choose System > Installation & Maintenace > System Installation.
  3. Select Distributed deployment, enter the user name and password of the collector operating system, and enter the collector IP address in the host IP address list.
    NOTE:

You can enter multiple collector IP addresses at a time and separate adjacent ones with a comma (,) to install the collectors in batches, but the prerequisite is that the servers of the collectors must use the same login user name and password.

By default, a collector receives only the logs of the NIC corresponding to the selected IP address (management IP address). If you select Receive Logs of All NICs, the collector will receive the logs of all NICs. Deselecting this option is recommended. Otherwise, the system receives useless logs, consuming resources. Only if the port for the collector to exchange information with the analyzer and the port for collecting logs reported by the log source are different, you need to select this item.

Follow-Up Procedure

Verify the installation after it is complete. For details, see section Verifying the Installation.

The collector service automatically starts after the collector is installed. In special scenarios, you may need to manually start the collector service. For details, see Starting the Log Collector.

If the installation fails or is interrupted because of certain causes, see section Handling the Installation Failure.
