Checking Hardware Connections

Checking Hardware Connections

This section describes how to check hardware installation and cable connections before you install the eLog. If hardware is improperly installed or cables are improperly connected, unexpected errors may occur during the installation.

Prerequisites

The server hardware has been installed and cables have been connected.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the power cables and ground cables are securely connected with correct polarity and good contact.
  2. Ensure that all cables are bundled and free of visible damage.
  3. Check hardware connections and network cables.

    Port Description:

    • The Mgmt port (iBMC port) is used to remotely connect and manage the server.
    • Besides the Mgmt port, the analyzer also has a web access port and a service port. The web access port is used to provide web services externally, exchange information with the collector, and enable users to access the eLog. The service port is used for service communications with other components, such as the collector. The web access port and service port can be the same port. If the log source and collector reside on different subnets, however, they can be two different ports.
    • Besides the Mgmt port, the collector also has a port for exchanging information with the analyzer and collecting logs reported by the log source.
    • In a centralized deployment scenario, besides the Mgmt port, the collector also has a web access port and a service port. The web access port is used to provide web services and for users to access the eLog, and the service port is used to collect logs reported by the log source. The web access port and service port can be the same port. If the log source and collector reside on different subnets, however, they can be two different ports.

  4. Check plugs and sockets.

    1. Ensure that the latches of cable plugs are locked securely.
    2. Ensure that the pins in each socket are complete and in good order. Curved pins may cause short circuits.

Follow-up Procedure

Ensure that all debris (cable straps, stubs, or moisture-absorbent packets) is removed.

Remove unnecessary items from the equipment room. Ensure that the workbench is neat and the movable floor is level and clean.
