Configuring the Large Layer 3 Interface Mode

Context

If the card interoperability mode is enhanced mode, by default, a maximum of 8,000 Layer 3 interfaces can be created on a switch. After the assign forward layer-3 interface mode command is executed to enable the large Layer 3 interface mode, you can increase the maximum number of Layer 3 interfaces to 320,000. However, if the ARP resource mode is extended mode, a maximum of 8,000 Layer 3 interfaces can be created.

Layer 3 interfaces share chip resources with Layer 2 VLANs and bridge domains (BDs), so Layer 3 interfaces include VLANs, BDs, main interfaces, Layer 3 sub-interfaces, and tunnel interfaces. Layer 2 VLANs and BDs will occupy chip resources once being created, even if no VLANIF or VBDIF Layer 3 interfaces are created.

NOTE:

CE12800E does not support this function.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run assign forward layer-3 interface mode

    The large Layer 3 interface mode is configured.

    By default, the large Layer 3 interface mode is not configured.

    NOTE:

    The assign forward layer-3 interface mode command takes effect after the switch is restarted.

    This function can be configured only when the card interoperability mode is enhanced mode. To check and configure the card interoperability mode, run the display forward capability and set forward capability enhanced commands.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
