Configuring Clock Source Attributes Used for BMC Selection

Context

After multiple 1588v2 devices are configured to import external time signals, you can configure clock source attributes for BMC selection on these devices to enable them to participate in BMC calculation or use the local clocks of these 1588v2 devices for BMC selection. The BMC algorithm can help dynamically determine the master clock, which can provide time signals for the entire 1588v2 network. Slave 1588v2 devices need to obtain time synchronization information from the GMC functioning as the master clock.

During BMC selection, a 1588v2 switch compares the following parameters in sequence to select the master clock:
  • priority1
  • clock-class
  • clock-accuracy
  • priority2
For example, the switch compares priority 1 values of two candidates. If the two candidates have the same priority 1 value, the switch compares clock classes of the two candidates. The process continues until the switch selects a master clock.

Perform the following steps on the 1588v2 device connected to an external clock source.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run ptp clock-source { local time-source time-source-value | [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 time-source time-source-value [ slot slot-id ] }

    The type of a clock source to be traced is specified.

    By default, the type of a local clock source is 8, namely, INTERNAL_OSCILLATOR type, and the type of a BITS clock source is 2, namely, GPS type.

  3. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source { local clock-accuracy clock-accuracy-value | [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 clock-accuracy clock-accuracy-value [ slot slot-id ] }

    A clock accuracy value of the clock source is set.

    By default, the clock accuracy value of a local clock source is 0x31, and the clock accuracy value of a BITS clock source is 0x20.

  4. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source { local clock-class clock-class-value | [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 clock-class clock-class-value [ slot slot-id ] }

    The clock class of the clock source is specified.

    By default, the clock class of a local clock source is 187, and the clock class of a BITS clock source is 6.

    NOTE:

    When clock-class-value is less than 128, the device cannot function as a slave clock.

  5. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source { local priority1 priority1-value | [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 priority1 priority1-value [ slot slot-id ] }

    The priority 1 value of the clock source is set.

    By default, the priority 1 value of a local clock source or a BITS clock source is 128.

  6. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source { local priority2 priority2-value | [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 priority2 priority2-value [ slot slot-id ] }

    The priority 2 value of the clock source is set.

    By default, the priority 2 value of a local clock source or a BITS clock source is 128.

  7. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 grandmaster-clockid grandmaster-clockid-value [ slot slot-id ]

    The grandmaster clock ID is specified for the clock source.

    By default, no grandmaster clock ID is specified for a clock source.

  8. (Optional) Run ptp clock-source [ chassis chassis-id ] bits1 offsetscaled-logvariance offsetscaled-logvariance-value [ slot slot-id ]

    The offset scaled log variance is specified for a BITS clock source.

    By default, the offset scaled log variance of a BITS clock source is 1.

  9. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
