This document describes the configurations of IP multicast, including IP multicast basics, IGMP, MLD, PIM (IPv4), PIM (IPv6), MSDP, multicast VPN, multicast route management (IPv4), multicast route management (IPv6), IGMP snooping, MLD snooping, static multicast MAC address, multicast VLAN, multicast network management.

(Optional) Configuring a Static Router Port


A router port is located on a Layer 2 device and receives multicast protocol packets from an upstream Layer 3 multicast router or Layer 3 switch. After MLD snooping is enabled in a VLAN, all interfaces in the VLAN learn multicast packets. When an interface receives an MLD Query message or a PIM Hello IPv6 message, the Layer 2 device configures the interface as a dynamic router port. A dynamic router port provides the following functions:
  • Receives multicast data from the upstream device.
  • Forwards MLD Report or Done messages. MLD Report or Done messages received in a VLAN are forwarded only to router ports in the VLAN.

A dynamic router port is aged periodically. If a dynamic router port does not receive an MLD Query message or a PIM Hello IPv6 message before the aging time expires, the device deletes the port from the router port list. To enable an interface to receive multicast data from the upstream device and forward MLD Report or Done messages to the upstream MLD querier for a long time, configure the interface as a static router port. A static router port will not age out. You can use the undo mld-snooping static-router-port command to delete it.


  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run mld snooping static-router-port vlan { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] } &<1-10>

    The interface is configured as a static router port.

    By default, a static router port is not configured.

  4. (Optional) Configure disabling of dynamic learning of router ports.
    1. Run quit

      Exit from the interface view.

    2. Run vlan vlan-id

      The VLAN view is displayed.

    3. Run mld snooping router-learning disable

      Dynamic learning of router ports is disabled.

      By default, dynamic learning of router ports is enabled. After dynamic learning of router ports is disabled, each interface does not listen to MLD Query messages. You can only configure static router ports.

  5. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
