Configuring VPN-based Layer 3 Multicast Between a PE and a CE

Configuring VPN-based Layer 3 Multicast Between a PE and a CE

Procedure

  1. Configure IGMP and VPN PIM.

When a PE is connected to a CE through a Layer 2 sub-interface bound to a BD, you can skip this step because IGMP and VPN PIM have been configured on the VBDIF interface of the BD. When a PE is connected to a CE through a common Layer 3 interface, perform the following steps on the PE:

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The view of the Layer 3 interface that connects the PE to the CE is displayed.

    3. Run ip binding vpn-instance vpn-instance-name

The interface is bound to an L3VPN instance.

    4. Run ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length }

An IP address is configured for the interface.

Because the interface automatically deletes its original IP address after being bound to an L3VPN instance, you must reconfigure the IP address.

    5. Run pim sm

      PIM-SM is enabled.

    6. Run igmp enable

      IGMP is enabled.

    7. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

Perform the following steps on the CE:

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run multicast routing-enable

      Multicast routing is enabled.

    3. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The Layer 3 interface view is displayed.

    4. Run pim sm

      PIM-SM is enabled.

This step must be performed on both the Layer 3 interface connected to the PE and the Layer 3 interface connected to the user network segment.

    5. (Option) Run igmp enable

      IGMP is enabled.

Perform this step on the Layer 3 interface that is connected to the user network segment.

    6. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

  2. Configure route exchange between the PE and CE.

To allow communication between the CE and PE and allow the CE to obtain the route to the multicast source, configure a routing protocol between the PE and CE. For details, see "Configuring Route Exchange Between PE and CE Devices" in the BGP/MPLS IP VPN configuration section.
