(Optional) Configuring an 802.1x Authentication Domain

(Optional) Configuring an 802.1x Authentication Domain

Prerequisites

A domain has been created using the domain command.

Context

The device manages 802.1x users based on domains. During user authentication, the device assigns users to specified domains based on the domain names contained in user names.

However, in the actual network environment, many user names do not contain domain names. As a result, excessive users are authenticated in the default domain using inflexible authentication schemes. In addition, these users cannot pass authentication once the AAA authentication scheme is not configured in the default domain. To solve this problem, you can configure an 802.1x authentication domain on the device. For 802.1x authentication users, the device will authenticate them in the 802.1x authentication domain regardless of whether their user names contain domain names.

This command can be configured in the system view or interface view. The configuration in the system view takes effect on all interfaces, and that in the interface view takes effect only on a specified interface. If the command is configured both in the system view and interface view, the configuration in the interface view takes precedence.

Procedure

  • In the system view,

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run domain domain-name

The 802.1x authentication domain is configured.

By default, no 802.1x authentication domain is configured.

    3. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

  • In the interface view,

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run domain domain-name

The 802.1x authentication domain is configured.

By default, no 802.1x authentication domain is configured.

    4. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.
