Configuring Connectivity Detection

Prerequisites

Before configuring connectivity detection on a switch, complete the following tasks:

  • The Agile Controller and switches have set up SNMP connections. For the SNMP configurations on the switch, see SNMP Configuration.
  • The Agile Controller and switches have set up NETCONF connections. For the NETCONF configurations on the switch, see NETCONF Configuration.
  • The Agile Controller and switches have set up OpenFlow connections. For the OpenFlow configurations on the switch, see OpenFlow Configuration.

    After NETCONF is configured on the Agile Controller, the Agile Controller automatically delivers OpenFlow configuration using the NETCONF protocol.

Context

Connectivity detection is to check whether the route from source to destination is reachable. To provide connectivity detection, the switch must work with the Agile Controller. The Agile Controller delivers connectivity detection packets to the switch through OpenFlow connections. The Agile Controller delivers two types of connectivity detection packets:
  • ICMP Echo Request

    Used for IP ping in connectivity detection on the Agile Controller. It detects connectivity between two devices on Layer 2, Layer 3 or Layer 2 and Layer 3 mixed network.

  • ARP Request

    Used for MAC ping in connectivity detection on the Agile Controller. It detects connectivity between two devices on only Layer 2 network.
